Truck-mounted AK-630M based CIWS ready for Indian Army Trials
AK-630M based Close-In Weapons System (CIWS) mounted on Tatra High Mobility 6×6 Vehicle specifically developed for the Indian Army is ready for developmental trials said industrial sources close to idrw.org. First Truck-mounted AK-630M CIWS has carried out internal trials by Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) and will ready for further trials by the Indian Army. In June 2019, idrw.org was first to break the story of the Indian Army asking OFB to develop the CIWS system to secure its Border Post and Troops stationed there. AK-630 which is manufactured locally in India by OFB has 95.6 % level of indigenization by OFB and is a proven, reliable and tested weapon system and can fire nearly 5,000 rounds per minute AK-630M CIWS is a 6 barrelled 30 mm Air defence Naval Gun of Russian origin presently in service with the Indian Navy and has a primary purpose to secure warship against anti-ship missiles and other precision-guided weapons, but the Truck-mounted AK-630M CIWS developed for the Indian Army will be positioned at Line of Control (LOC) against defence against Heavy mortar shells Anti-Rocket and Artillery Shell, which are usually fired against Army Post in the region. Truck-mounted AK-630M CIWS incorporates BEL developed fire control radar which can engage aerial targets at 4 km and 5 km and is fully automated, and can also be remotely controlled by an operator from either the control console or via a remotely mounted gun-sight. According to OFB sources close to idrw.org, CIWS System is also fine-tuned to take out MALE and HALE Class UAVs and Small Drones and has been jointly developed with BEML.

RADAR is separate system.

It would fun to find out how much gradient this one can negotiate, centre of gravity seems to be atleast 1.5 metres above ground.

You mean, this vehicle is never expected to travel on a inclined surface.

AK 630 weighs roughly two tonnes.

I frankly don't see how height is a bad thing for a anti-aircraft CIWS. If with that height it can handle the recoil of the 30mm spray & move around cross-country around the facility/installation it'll be protecting, then higher the better IMO.

Chinese one looks like this & can shoot in only one 200° arc;

I frankly don't see how height is a bad thing for a anti-aircraft CIWS. If with that height it can handle the recoil of the 30mm spray & do cross-country around the facility/installation it'll be protecting, then higher the better IMO.

AK-603M is the regular feature of IN vessels. So to start with, it is a reliable platform.

TATRA is the go to vehicle for IA, IAF.So this one too is a reliable platform.

Now if OFB wanted a proof firing to be done, they could have checked it from any land based static system. If it fires from a land based static platform, it would fire from a moving platform.

But is they want to test how gravity would effect its operation with such an abomination of a creation, its the worst of an idea. It just seems that they had plucked up the CIWS from an IN vessel and put it straight on back of the truck.

there is an element of off-roading required to get to nice spots long forward posts.

Anyways, let’s see how the final design looks like. this seems to be a very early prototype.

This is probably the second missile system after harpoon which US sold to India if I am not wrong --- India need to balance between russians & west in defence deal --- at same time keep inducting from domestic source --- learn from best --- western technology is superior --- only a fool will think otherwise.

India should buy one missile system from each country around the globe like 1each from Yuganda , Rawanda, Burundi, Somalia etc to balance each other. Also don’t forget 1 from Pakistan too even if they don’t produce a damn thing. Its a brilliant strategy.
