Nope! The opposite. We have had a lack of quality drag flickers after Harmanpreet; Rupinder's 'retirement' has only made it more obvious. Varun and others are nowhere close to their level; Sanjay is good but is too young. Need to sort this out before Paris 2024.is it a fair observation to say Indian hockey men's team are too dependant on penalties to score goals?
As for Australia, it is more of a psychological obstacle; they are NOT better than us! The same thing happened in Tokyo as well; we went on to win the bronze despite getting thrashed by 7-1. I remember folks at r/fieldhockey expressing surprise the way we played; I cannot remember the last time we beat them away from home.
As for this lot, it is a restructured squad with a focus on Paris 2024; many senior players have been shown the door and juniors have come in. Obvious inexperience aside (case in point match against England), they seem to be doing pretty well. I recommend watching the match 1 of Belgium vs India in the FIH Pro League; what a match these young lads pulled out against undoubtedly the best team in the world, that too at their home turf!
