MH 47 will be very beneficial and ensure commonality with the CH 47s we already have, don't think they'll agree if MH-60L/M if IAF is incharge. If it's an all round effort then they may consider commonality with INs MH 60Rs.

Even the EC 725 can be considered if IN chooses this for the NMRH to reduce prices

They can anyways order a few, a dozen BlackHawks and a dozen Chinooks.

Don't know what's happening with those Navy helo deals, everything seems dead in the water.

The H-60 & H-47 platforms would be my choice because of 2 reasons:

1) Extensively used in the SOF role in varying environments throughout the world & continuously improved due to USSOCOM operations. Minimal platform risk.

2) Both families of helos already used by India in one form or other (CH-47F & MH-60R) so logistics costs with regard to engines, maintenance, rotables & consumables etc. would be minimized as opposed to a new platform. Would allow AFSOD to lean on the existing infrastructure of the Armed Forces for their upkeep.

If it's an all round effort then they may consider commonality with INs MH 60Rs.
AFSOD is a Tri-service unit from the ground-up and draws personnel from all three Services.

But in a country where Army Aviation insists on having separate infrastructure & training facilities for the same type of helo as operated by IAF (AH-64E), anything can happen.

Speaking of helos, I would love to see a SOF variant of ALH with a Terrain-following Radar in the nose (where the SAR/ISAR radar is sitting on the Mk-3MR variant). Add some MAWS which current Navy ALHs lack and you have a respectable SOF helo on hand.

Problem with such ideas is who will fund them? The AFSOD has minimum budgets as of now.

Probably lacks the range/payload though for a SF bird, 10tns is really the sweet spot for these things aka UH-60, NH-90 etc.

I’d love to see a spec’d out IMRH in the future though

This is what a 'SOF spec' IMRH could look like:

^ CSAR version of AW-101 for the Italian AF

Even has air-air refuelling:

This could be used for a SOAR type unit and IAF CSAR roles

Until then it would be nice if AFSOD/INSOCOM could have the SF aviation assets from IAF/IA/IN integrated into it

Also the coolest gun mount..

Do we have the M134 Minigun or M61 Vulcan Gatling guns on any of our aircraft barring the Russian one?
On the previous version of the IAFs game app(Guardians of the Skies) by Threye Developers, in one of the missions you have to clear few enemy targets using an M61 Vulcan, before inserting Garuds to rescue a high value target in contested airspace.
In terms of weapons used and details, that game was very accurate and since IAF was involved do you guys think the SF version of the IAF C130J with A2A refuelling and EO Pod has these guns or the developers have taken some creative liberty by copying an AC130?

Talk about your 'grey man', seems like an everyday guy but what a history.

Would be the kind of guy you'd hope could find himself leading a SF btn or even AFSOD/INSOCOM
Indeed. This is not the kind of guy who you advertise for PR to recruit but this is definitely the kind of guy who can be pushed into an undercover role as a truck driving "Chacha" in Kashmir.
