I was making a limited point about SF avenues by comparing to Infantry, and how SF officers could be retained.

Though SF is basically infantry, the avenues for promotion/growth are directly proportional to the number of vacancies at General level which could be "reserved" for SF officers based on the merit of their specialisation.

AFSOD is headed by Major General so that is one confirmed SF general. There is 50th Ind Parachute Brigade which is headed by Para officer for example.

SFF is headed by Major General as well, but by looking at the history Infantry officers seem to be heading it most of the time. Why not Parachute Regiment or Para SF.

Even at General level, many of the posts can be specific or "reserved" (I dont like that word either). for example, NSG's IG (Ops) should be from Para SF. If we do that, we will find more SF officers not leaving the Army early.

You are treading into a very dangerous ground and trying to push SF community officers into sheltered Cocoons. I really do not know if this is the result of some insecurity or incompetency that makes such a strong carving for "reservation. I am sure you are aware of the case of Mechanised Infantry and what state they have landed themselves because of their attempts to trump up Mechanised specialization of need to remain so in the safe Cooccons of Jodhpur Jhansi or Patiala. The results is they are no longer part of Infantry and they have been given their pro rata vacancies to become a general once upon a time.

Considering the principles of "Sarvajan Hitaya Sarvajan Sukhaya" (equal and maximum development opportunities to all based on their numbers) which the Indian Army has rightly adopted as fair and equitable base for career progression to all bases on comparative merits with in the cadre, if SF community opts for Cadre based vacancies then there is nothing for them except dark future and blindness.

You surely understand what is cadre based promotion. Artillery officers get promoted to brigadiers based on vacancies of Artillery brigades and other artillery brigadiers ranks vacancies. Out of the brigadier they get promoted to Maj Gen ranks based on Artillery vacancies - MG Artillery and Artillery Divs plus some pro rata vacancies, Then when it comes to Lt Gen not more than two can be selectyed. This way Artillery has foolishly sealed their fate,

Today SF officers are part of Infantry cadre. They get selected to Col as Infantry officers irrespective of vacancies if SF or Para battalions. As a Col an SF officers is slected to Brig based on general cadre vacancies and after that they are Gen cadre. Look at the fact that officers of ten odd battalions of SF enjoy the vacancies of 450 odd battalions on comparative merit in spite of not being fit to command an infantry battalion (that is my own opinion). So an SF officers is given 100 percent advantage in selection.

What is a formation which could be SF specific? Not even the Para Bde. a Para bde is an Ifnatry bride with Para component to be employed as Infantry after drop. SF officer is not trained to employ Infantry formation. So SF officers can hardly claim one odd Brig vacancies in staff somewhere once in a while subject to qualifications.

Within the vast pool of Infantry Cadre and then General cadre, selection is purely comparative merit. So why be afraid of your incompetency , Why crave for two reserved vacancies when 200 are available to you. That is foolish idea.

I can say for sure you have no idea of the system and are thinking from a very very narrow perspective. Please do not way lay SF community officers on a disastrous path and make them trade on such a constricted and constipated narrow path that they run for two reserved vacancies leaving aside 200.

Look at this way- even for those two vacancies, there will be selection. The way out is to advocate better education, training and exposure for SF Officers, Encourage them to pass DSSC, do some good course, go for GSO1 of of an Infantry brigade, go on ERE to RR, AR, SFF, Inf battalions, Armour regiments and command Company equivalent forces, learn something more in life, be exposed as Col GS or Col Adam. That is the way out.

Please do not mislead and misinform the insecure SF Community and advocate putting them into some cocoons.

No idea. But PARA Airborne also getting these in good numbers.
Two of my SF buddies who used to operate with FAB Modified AKs are now operating these.
So they are replacing Fab mod Aks? Was the Aks meant just to act as stop gap? Heard many preferred Fab mod Aks due tk the stopping power.

Look closely... These are their existing TAR-21 with an attachment of flaptop full p-rail.
Dont think so.Para airborne also have been getting this. There is no way SF would give away their weapons when they dont have sufficient numbers.

Not replacing. They love their AKs & specially after spending money on modifying them with FAB they can't let them go. These are additions in their existing inventory.

It's possible. But atleast in that above image it seems to be the case... Something like FAB got done to their AKs. The rail might be a simple add-on attachment too.

Then why would they replace the Mars sights.Doesn't seems logical.Mostly brought limited numbers to distribute among thr newly formed SF units and also among airborne units in limited no.s.

New IWI TAR-21 FLATTOP with MEPRO MOR of Parachute Regiment
Being Issued to both Airborne & SF Battalions
What's the difference between this tavor and the tavor used earlier by SFs? And why our SFs are not using modified AKs as they are more powerful than tavors? And are SFs getting Sig 716 or not???

I am only aware of visual differences with 0.1 Inch smaller barrel, full length rails & black magazines instead of gray.
SF is using modified AKs & won't stop using it till next decade.
Not really sure about the SIG.

What I find incredibly silly is that the guy making the procurements went for pricey Team Wendy EXFIL helmets and no ballistic torso protection, whereas for the price of that helmet, the personnel could be armed with basic ballistic torso protection and indigenous ballistic helmet options, which would have been a more complete setup.
