Both countries are suffering from the same headache called Pakistan. Hope Afghans would be loyal to us and we both could take our friendship a step further.

Afghans are the most two-faced people if recent history is to be looked at.

India should be wary of them. That being said , this is a good move , stopping them from falling in Pakistani sphere of influence.

But we should not do too much or they'll start thinking too highly of themselves and demands will increase. When we deny those demands their pride will be hurt and they'll resent us.

USA do have influence in Afghanistan, But it is all about diplomacy to cut a deal with NATO in Afghanistan. India , Iran and Russia also share common interests in Afghanistan.

Just imagine even 60% achieved by the grace of almighty America(pbuh) :p :) Pak,Saudi,Iran&Turkey will stay in their limits forever Inshaamerica.

Note: The following map was prepared by Lieutenant-Colonel Ralph Peters. It was published in the Armed Forces Journal in June 2006.Although the map does not officially reflect Pentagon doctrine, it has been used in a training program at NATO’s Defense College for senior military officers. This map, as well as other similar maps, has most probably been used at the National War Academy as well as in military planning circles.

Just see the mentality of Americans! In the After map PoK has been shown in Afghanistan!! If they cry that India can be a "key ally" of US they got to behave that way. And since you said these maps are used for training purposes we can surely assume that even in near future USA will not take an Indian stand regarding Kashmir.

That was predicted in 2006.That is why I said 60% target may achieved! (by US).Now you see Sunni&Shia iraq are already separated and Kurdistan will be independent in near future.

US is not friend to any one. btw what will India achieve with pok? (except more Muslims)

Based on personal interaction, Mirpuris from POK are more rabid in their India hatred than Punjabis.

Oman is the first Gulf nation to have formalised defence relations with India. Both countries conducted joint military exercises in 2006 and subsequently signed a defense agreement. Following Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Oman in 2008, defence co-operation between the two countries was further stepped up. The Indian Navy has been utilising Oman's ports as bases for conducting anti-piracy operations in the Gulf of Aden. The Indian Air Force has also been holding biannual joint exercises with the Royal Air Force of Oman since 2009

Indian Listening Station In Oman Monitoring Pakistan's Naval Communications
As claimed by the France-based, privately-operated, global intelligence gathering organisation, Indigo Publications, in its 'Intelligence Online' publication.(Aldrich)

This, from its January 16 2013 newsletter.

"India opens its ears – European intelligence services are keenly speculating on the purpose of a listening post that has been active for at least two years on the outskirts of Ras al-Hadd, at the northeasternmost tip of Oman. Located on an isolated rocky plateau just 2 km from the sea, the site which is protected by police checkpoints in not among the listed US listening post in the country (see below), and it may be the first Indian listening post in the Persian Gulf. Several reasons make this likely. While Saudi Arabia and most other kingdoms in the region are allied to Pakistan, Oman has active diplomatic relations with India, with whom it signed a defence agreement in 2008. Construction of the Ras al-Hadd listening post was finished a year later. The facility is also located directly across the Arabian Sea from Pakistan. India has had an interception post in the far north of Madagascar since 2007 and is planning to build others in the Maldives, the Seychelles and Mauritius."

As seen from the Google Maps image, above, the Indian listening post is practically a front door neighbour [~400 kms] to Pakistan's Gwadar Port, one that it wants China to develop into a major Naval installation, among other fantastical longings. If plans for such a base, located in a province that has been waging a struggle for its independence from the existing Pakistani state for more than 60 years, do materialise, then India would be favourably placed to monitor the upsurge in communications emanating from there [SIGINT]. Of all the monarchies in the Middle-East, India has enjoyed an especially close & friendly relationship with the Omani kingdom. Besides periodic joint military exercises, involving all 3 branches of the Armed Forces, Oman has also granted it berthing rights for Indian Naval Warships to replenish its stocks & its sailors to step on land for Rest & Recuperation, during the course of long deployments away from home, an increasing trend in the Navy's mission profile. Such an arrangement with Oman fits perfectly with the Indian Government stating the extent from the Persian Gulf to Malacca Strait being within the ambit of its 'Area of Operation'/'Sphere of Interest'. Yet another indication of Indo-Omani relations being robust & one based on trust was the recent report which stated that the kingdom had approached India to carry out the task of fencing its International Borders with Yemen, a critical security measure to keep the kingdom safe from influence of Islamist terrorists. Despite these gains, the relationship holds potential for a lot more, especially given that one sits on major energy reserves & the other is an even greater consumer of it. Relationships wrapped around Carbon – diamonds, oil alike – the strongest.

Also read: India and Oman Relations

India, with its closer proximity & historical contact with the African & Middle-Eastern region, has thus far managed to gain an upper hand viz-a-viz China, on matters of militarily significant presence in that region. However, one needn't be exceedingly intelligent to deduce that China, with its deeper pockets and propensity to buy out any opposition is sparing no efforts to follow suite. On China's efforts thus far,

"China's floating facilities – Although it is trailing behind in the Arabian sea listening post race, China is nonetheless working iall out to install permanent interception facilities in the region. Chinese specialists now support Pakistan and Iran's intelligence services, however these only have very limited interception capacities.

To boost its presence in the region, the 3rd Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, which is in charge of interception, is working to develop its ties with countries such as Djibouti and Kenya, however this has yet to produce any concrete results.

In the meantime, China regularly dispatches "oceanographic observation" vessels, crammed with sophisticated interception material, to the Arabian Sea. These frequently fid themselves crossing paths with the Dupuy de Lôme, the French Navy sea intelligence ship that entered into service 2006 and also spends much of its time in the same waters."

Beside the above listening post, India has long been helping nations in the Indian Ocean Region [IOR] set up security infrastructure, and providing military hardware. Besides the additional SIGINT stations planned in other countries, as stated above, India has also completed the task of linking up its coastal radars on its West coast, with those it has installed on each of Maldives' islands. Similar inter-linking plans with Sri Lanka & Mauritius are also to be implemented. The Armed Forces have also regularly been engaging in joint military exercises with them, besides imparting training. In addition to these, the Navy & Coast Guards also assist by carrying out hydrographic surveys & maritime surveillance of their EEZ. The Indian Navy has been deputing its officers to help manage Mauritius' Coast Guard's operations. Militarily India has a distinct advantage, by a comfortable margin, over China which is seen to be earnestly trying to gain a foothold in the IOR. Understanding the challenges such developments pose to Indian interests & concerns, it is absolutely imperative for India to leverage & strengthen its long-standing relationships with nations in the IOR, guarding against any unwarranted ingress. Developments over the past few years do indicate that the Indian leadership is wholly cognizant of this fact and has been seen taking measures to address these, though the pace at which it seem to be occurring leads one to conclude that there could be ample scope for improvement in the effort.

India Oman Air excercises

And Now India - Iran are extending their trade relationship and India will have considerable presence in Chabahar also.
That's a good news.

So we can even by pass the extended EEZ of Pakistan which was granted and legitimized by UN.

Your views are pathetic. Just because PoK has many Muslims so we should not think of getting that back???? That's our land.
Anyways what I wanted to highlight is that what makes Americans think that PoK should go to Afghanistan and not India?
I don't think any of those target is going to be achieved. America studies them in order to get understanding of west Asia nothing else. Very soon Iraq and Syria will get back lands which are lost.

If something has to be achieved the best thing would be a free Balochistan and a free Kurdistan. Former would really bring disaster to Turkey's dream of building a new Ottoman empire. :p Saudis are already in their limits. I mean they are not doing anything against the wish of their big brother.

India, Afghans not enjoying Pak cooperation – but Afghans are smart: Ata Mohammad Noor
January 15, 2016, 12:03 AM IST Rohit E David in The Interviews Blog | Edit Page, India, World | TOI

Ata Mohammad Noor, a former mujahideen, is governor of Balkh province in Afghanistan and personally helped defend the Indian consulate at Mazar-iSharif when it was attacked by heavilyarmed militants alongside the Pathankot terror strike. Speaking with Rohit E David, Noor discussed Pakistan’s role in fomenting militancy in India and Afghanistan, a stable Afghanistan being vital for the region – and why he protected India’s interests himself:

Is it clear now that Pakistan encourages extremism in both Afghanistan and India?

Extremism has very deep roots in the region. Both these countries today are victims of this – but extremism isn’t for the benefit of any country. It finally eats at the roots of its own motherland.

Afghanistan has indicated Pakistan over the Indian embassy attack – how can Pakistan be trusted now?

I’ve always emphasised that a stable and secure Afghanistan will require friendly cooperation from its neighbours – it’s sad that due to many reasons, we haven’t been enjoying that kind of friendly and healthy cooperation from Pakistan.

However, we are hoping that the recent trilateral talks would have an outcome. Even though it might be difficult to trust, I do believe we need to convince our neighbours that they can only enjoy peace if Afghanistan is secure. A stable Afghanistan is a stable Pakistan and India.

How do ordinary Afghans envision Pakistan today?

Afghans are a very hospitable people. They treat all neighbours in a good and respectful way. We hope that intentions change to good and positive, so that we can all share mutual cooperation.

Afghans are very smart too – they differentiate good from bad. Whoever treats us well will be respected – those who deceive us will finally fall in their own trap.

During the attack in Afghanistan, you went out with your own arms to protect the Indian embassy – how come?

India’s presence in Afghanistan is based on a mutual contract. The safety of Indian diplomats and diplomats of other countries is our top priority. I deemed it my own responsibility to take arms, go out and defend our Indian brothers during a bad moment.

I am personally not the sort of person who sits behind my desk, within locked doors, leading operations. I am a man of action and I was at the scene five minutes from the incident starting. I helped with coordination that resulted in finishing all the insurgents with very low casualties to civilians or military.

We have a message of peace and solidarity for our Indian brothers and sisters now. Our bond goes back many years. I have been to India a few times. Those were my best trips when I was warmly received by the great Indian nation.

My message to India now is that we will be standing with you in your good and, God forbid, bad days. The Indian ambassador to Kabul is a fantastic diplomat and has also done a lot to bring the two nations together.

I was thrilled too when India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to Afghanistan and gave us a new Parliament building.

Why India Transferred Attack Helicopters to Afghanistan

Earlier this month, the Afghan Ministry of Defense inducted three Mi-25 attack helicopters into the Afghan Air Force (AAF). The helicopters were supplied by India and mark the first time that New Delhi has transferred lethal military equipment to Afghanistan. The AAF inducted three of four scheduled Mi-25 helicopters. The Mi-25s will replace Afghanistan’s aging Mi-35 attack helicopters and provide a much-needed boost to Afghanistan’s air support capabilities in the ongoing struggle against the Taliban across the country.

On January 20, Afghanistan confirmed that three multirole Mi-25 had been assembled and were ready for operational use. The Mi-25s will likely see their first use in the ongoing struggle against Taliban fighters in Helmand province. “We have always been helped by India. The helicopters donated by India to Afghanistan have been assembled and will help us fight terrorists,” Ghulam Sakhi Ahmadzai, deputy chief of procurement at the Afghan defense ministry, told Tolo News.

The Mi-25 agreement between the two countries was announced in November 2015, when Afghan National Security Adviser Hanif Atmar and Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister Hekmat Khalil Karzai visited New Delhi. India had previously supplied three Hindustan Aeronautic Limited (HAL) Cheetal trainer helicopters to the AAF.

The Afghan Air Force already has experience with Russian-made Mi-24 attack helicopters and operates five older Mi-35s, that were supplied by the Czech Republic in 2008. The AAF’s existing Mi-35s, however, are not commonly used. As Franz-Stefan Gady explained in The Diplomat in November, the “Mi-25 is a close-air support aircraft armed with a YakB four-barrelled, 12.7mm, built-in, flexibly mounted machine gun, as well as rocket and grenade launchers. It can be deployed against ground troops including armored and slow moving air targets. It can also serve as a low-capacity troop transport (up to eight paratroopers), and be used for medical evacuation missions.” The helicopter is thus well-suited for the AAF’s role in helping the Afghan National Army take Taliban positions with close-air support.

Unfortunately, given the many challenges facing Afghan security forces in Afghanistan, the Indian transfer of Mi-25s is not a game changing development on the battlefield. Instead, the broader significance of the transfer is in what it tells us about New Delhi’s approach to security in Afghanistan. Despite close ties between India and Afghanistan, New Delhi took until early 2016 to deliver lethal weaponry to Kabul due to concerns that doing so could aggravate Pakistan, which sees increased Indian support for the Afghan government as a potential threat.

The Indian government, however, is moving away from that old paradigm in managing its relationship with Afghanistan. Indeed, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi showed his interest in decoupling India’s approach to Afghanistan from its approach to Pakistan when he made a surprise stopover in Lahore just hours after having declared his support for Afghanistan before the Afghan parliament.

Afghans will never accept Durand Line as permanent border: Protestors

By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: Hundreds of people came to the streets on Wednesday to protest against Pakistan’s aggression and cross-Durand Line attacks at the Torkham crossing. The protesters said that Afghans would never accept the Durand Line as permanent border between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Pakistan’s intention to build a check post at the Torkham area caused a three-day clash between with Afghan border police. Three Afghan border police and two children were killed and 20 others were injured. The protestors denounced Pakistan’s cross border attacks, saying that they would defend their territory until the last drop of their blood.

“We run the protest to condemn cross border attacks and aggression in Torkham by Pakistan paramilitary and announce support from Afghan forces,” said Faiz Mohammad Zaland, who had organized the demonstration.

Laghman Tribal Elder Mohabatullah Khan Shirzad who attended the protest, said: “We protested to raise our voice against Pakistan aggression in Torkham.”

“We never accept Durand Line as border.”

“I will support Afghan army in war against Pakistan and will resist up to last drop of blood in anti-Pakistan war,” Khan said.

Another protestor Mohammad Munir Ibrahimi wearing army uniform said that “Afghan people never accept aggression in Afghanistan soil and will defend territory.” The protesters then submitted a resolution to the United Nations office in Kabul to register their protest against Pakistan’s aggressions.

Pakistan through intelligence services and military establishment has constantly perpetrated political chaos into Afghan territory. We strongly condemn these policies and demand that Pakistan should quickly abandon this nefarious design of negatively pursuing aim in Afghanistan as soon as possible. Since long time Pakistan has fueling the undeclared war in Afghanistan, we strongly demand from the United Nations (UN) to define this war to the Afghans and put the perpetrators at execution for their wrong doings according to the international law.

Pakistan under the religious mercenaries and proxy is fighting war inside Afghanistan while using the name of Islam and jihad for the wicked design. Pakistan under these mercenaries wants to achieve the dirty chauvinist “strategic depth”. We demand from United Nation, OIC, and other international Islamic organization to not support Pakistan. We further demand from the international community and rights groups to take tough measure against Pakistan. We want from United Nation to put ban on Pakistan’s intelligence agencies and their puppet terrorist groups. United Nation should also put these mercenaries in black list and freeze their financial support and assets. These groups have led so many crimes and atrocities against humanity under the divine name of religion and sects.

United nation and their permanent member states including United Kingdom should understand that Durand Line is a 19th century colonial imposed line. Afghans have never accepted this line and will never accept in future too. All Afghans collectively rejects Pakistan’s position on Durand Line. International community especially UK should assured Pakistan that Afghans will never accept this artificial line in front of any force. Pakistan should understand Afghans will never let their colonized soils to neo-colonizer.

We also want to convey the clear message to the world that the people of Pakistan is not our enemy, we want peaceful coexistence with them. But the only hurdle to the whole regional peace is the dominant Punjabi ruling elites, who want to impose their neo-colonialism and imperialism against all oppressed nationalities, especially Baloch, Sindhi and Pashtoon. These oppressed nationalities already struggling for self-determination rights. We support democratically their struggle for freedom against the repressive colonized subjugation of Punjab military establishment. We consider the Pashtoon in Pakistan the worst subjugated colonized nationality. The colonized Pashtoon are the non-separated part of the Afghan geography and history. We also want from United Nation (UN), US, and friends of Afghanistan to equip and support technically the Afghan National Army (ANA) according to the professional modern requirement.

A professional and discipline Afghan force will ultimately resist more sufficiently the threat of terrorism including Pakistan’s aggression. International community should know that support for Pakistan means support for terrorism. International community should stop military and economic aid to Pakistan if they want to defeat the menace of terrorism. We also want from US to support Afghan forces in front of Pakistan’s aggression as according to Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA).The protestors also strongly demands from the Afghan government to think about alternative trade transit route to reduce the dependence on Pakistani transit trade route. Afghan government should also take measure to decrease Pakistani made commodities in the local market and increase Afghan made commodities.

So Afgans coming out and making sure Pakis are called out for their ILLEGAL OCCUPATION of Afgan land.

Daal Khor Punjabi Musalman needs a beating both covertly and overtly.

This unresolved dispute between AF Pak is good for India and the govt should support Afghans as allies both militarily and diplomatically.
It's good for all the world and not just India since the MOST terrorists are created in that part of Af-Pak and specially inside Pakistan.

Also Pakistan destroyed Afganistan and Afgans should rise and get some self respect as a sovereign nation again and get back their land beyond Durand Line. Pakis should PAY for their misdeeds dearly like they did to Bangladeshis.

I blame the bloody 'angrez' for all this. Took land clearly belonging to Afghans and carved parts of it into what became Pakistan. It should be called the subcontinent's other Partition.

Angrez are also suffering(for creating Pakistan) getting their British white teen girls groomed by old Paki men.Angrez are literally SCREWED in their own land.

But now the problem of Durand Line needs to be solved since Pakis are ILLEGALLY OCCUPYING it.
