Interesting day for IN:

1. RFI for procurement of 21 NWFAC. Previously, there was a RFI for procurement of 7 NGFAC, I'm not sure if they have changed the number and requirements or both are separate.

2. P-17 class will finally have Brahmos missile. I hope they even put MF-STAR + MRSAM on these ships during their MLU though chances are very scarce.

3. This is a surprise that, IN wants to procure Brahmos for NGMV for which the contract has yet to be signed and construction is yet to commence.

Repeating-

We won't be importing MF-STAR or MR-SAM.

P-17A is the last class to get MF-STAR (procurement for which was cleared before the ban).
MR-SAM will be made in India, the previous naval MR-SAM (ex LR-SAM) was imported from Israel.

11 days since 31st Dec 2022, the import of naval MF-STAR & naval MR-SAM has been banned.

The contract for NGMV is to be signed this fiscal, dunno if the negotiations have been delayed or not.

Shivalik might get 8-cell UVLM with the BrahMos FCS upgrade.

well it is just an AoN from the DAC, so quite some steps to go before they materialize.

The Finnish Hamina-class missile boats would be a great template to modernize the 25th "Killer" Missile Boat Squadron. Not with 1000+ton corvettes, but small, fast, stealthy missile boats.

So they have approved BrahMos VLS for NGMV . So even if NGMV construction starts in 2023-24, the first one wont be scheduled for completion by 2027-28. Suddenly sometime in 2027 the navy will realize - OMG BrahMos NG is ready for induction, so lets change the entire VLS requirements and fit BrahMos NG instead of the standard BrahMos.
And then......We all know.

Thats best part about vls, you don't need to do lot of changes, new cells can be easily retrofited

IMO, we have not seen our Universal VLS yet because the missiles for the VLS are still under development. They need to figure out which missiles they are going to put in it. We are yet to see to the first test of LR-LACM, AD-2, etc.

Will it be a single design like Chinese one or two versions like S.Korean one is also something to be seen.
