What happened to Makkar class from ABG? They have really dropped the ball on this one.

Look at crew compliment, totally different. Coz the previous one is a training ship for Survey
I read number of crew but that doesn't change much, as the main thing are different types of hydrographic equipments, which are not mentioned in this thread, also thought as GRSE won that tender & some media sources suggest tonnage of that ship 3000+ tonnes, isn't too much for 5 training survey ships, as all previous main survey ships too were very smaller.

I think second ship INS Mean is under construction remaining ships awaiting clearance.

So, all the 10 new survey ships are going to completely transform survey will of the navy.
By the time all will be commissioned only two Sandhayak class ships will be decommissioned.
Also, add some Makar class, at least INS Mean if not more.
I hope president will name these ships after scientists of India from Kanada, Charaka to JC Bose, Raman, Ramanujan Saha, Bhabha to Satish Dhawan, Kalam.
I will love if he names these ships after living scientists Swaminathan, CNR Rao, G Madhavan Nair.

Alcock Ashdown Gujarat Ltd is building Makar class not ABG.
ABG is building 3 training ships for navy which will have displacement of 4000 tonnes.

See they have inside information(Seriously, even when navy said next class of DDG to be 13,000 but these want 10,000 tonnes & with weapon load of a super cruiser 82 VLS for quad packed Barak-8 & don't stop at that point)

The future of the Indian Navy, with regards to it's primary surface vessels, must be one of enhanced capabilities.

Control of the Indian Ocean, for the purpose of keeping India's sea lanes open, is vital for national defence and the Indian commitment to it's international peacekeeping responsibilities is significant and ever growing in an unstable and increasingly multipolar world.

These commitments, national and international necessitate that the Indian Navy acquires a true blue water capability. Since 1961 the Indian Navy has operated aircraft carriers. From the mid-80s until the mid-90s the Navy operated two. And so with the commissioning of the INS Vikrant expected in 2023 it shall do again. It is hardly a secret however that the Indian Navy is planning a successor to the Vikrant, planned to be called Vishal or 'Giant' the planned vessel is intended to be a nuclear powered vessel and a true supercarrier. The Indian Navy has further stated that it will intend to build not one, but two of the class, declaring that the highly modified Kiev-class carrier, INS Vikramaditya, will be removed from service some time around 2030. Kochin Shipyrds, the primary contractors for the class have declared their belief that the ship's could be built in seven years, with them entering service fully by 2030 and 2032 respectively. A unit cost of $4bn has been agreed by the Indian Government.

Massive aircraft carriers are not all that is required by the Indian Navy however, Destroyers capable of performing air and surface warfare missions are vital for the protection and operation of any carrier fleet. Currently the Indian Navy is procuring four Visakhapatnam-class stealth guided missile destroyers. Once the production run of the Visakhapatnam vessels is complete however the Indian Navy will immediately transfer to production of a new class. The new class would represent a significant leap forward in capabilities, featuring an all new hull and propulsion/power system. It would also mean an end to the P-15 platform of the Delhi, Kolkata and Visakhapatnam destroyers and the inauguration of a new P-18 platform. Subunit cost of $1.5bn is expected. Making the class cost approximately $9-10bn. In terms of capabilities the as-yet unnamed P-18 class will boast a powerful battery of Indo-Israeli Barak-8 WE long-range Sam's along with Nirbhay, Brahmos and Hypersonic Brahmos 2 missiles. As constructed the will fit Barak-1 missiles and AK-630 CIWS for point defence. But refit to an Indian CIWS system will be considered. The Indian Navy will procure the P-18 class between 2025 and 2030.

Who even writes these?
They take over 10 years to complete INS Vikrant and talking about Vishal construction in 7 years?

Just 4 Billion$ unit cost for INS Vishal? If thats the case, i would like to order a few for myself please.
okay , on a serious note, Vikrant costs over 4 Bil$. Vishal with its capability and in terms of future money would go over 8 Bil$ Each.

Vikramaditya will retire after 2030? So they bought the Carrier to be used for just over 17 years? When they had used the Viraat for 30 years, even after it was extensively used before. In comparison, Vikramaditya hast even been used as much, due to budget constraints of the Russians.

The info about the New Generation Destroyer programme is absolute speculation.

People have sooo much spare time to write crap..

That's what I too said.
I think NGD will be either 13,000+ or 9000- tonnes if GoI doesn't give permission for 13,000+ DDG.
Include these also.
2x4 533mm torpedo tubes
Single Ashwin ABM

"P-18" specs look quite fanboyish to me. Number of VLS cells seems to be a lot less than they should be. Apparently someone took the Kolkata numbers at face value.

Barak-1 in both P-18 & Vishal doesn't make sense as it is Barak-8's job to act as point defence and neither does the 2 tube torpedo launcher because if rumours floating are correct then Vizag class itself will have a 3 tube launcher.

It is fan boyish. The next gen Destroyer specs have not been nailed down. I just hope they order min 6 for batch-I and then again 6 for batch -II instead of 3-4 piece meal orders.

There is a good reason for that. Indian naval shipbuilding capabilities are yet to be at par with the Western or even Russian one. Piecemeal orders help IN stay current as much as possible and to gather technology as it comes. India is still a long way from having a design like Arleigh Burke class.

That is why PLAN has 2-3 times the destroyers that IN has. In may be able to stay current but they simply don't have enough numbers to make it count.

Please elaborate. I can digest the fact that the IN does not have a platform like the Zumawalt Class. But "Arleigh Burke"? Seriously? Please elaborate because I am not getting the point.
