The future of the Indian Navy, with regards to it's primary surface vessels, must be one of enhanced capabilities.
Control of the Indian Ocean, for the purpose of keeping India's sea lanes open, is vital for national defence and the Indian commitment to it's international peacekeeping responsibilities is significant and ever growing in an unstable and increasingly multipolar world.
These commitments, national and international necessitate that the Indian Navy acquires a true blue water capability. Since 1961 the Indian Navy has operated aircraft carriers. From the mid-80s until the mid-90s the Navy operated two. And so with the commissioning of the INS Vikrant expected in 2023 it shall do again. It is hardly a secret however that the Indian Navy is planning a successor to the Vikrant, planned to be called Vishal or 'Giant' the planned vessel is intended to be a nuclear powered vessel and a true supercarrier. The Indian Navy has further stated that it will intend to build not one, but two of the class, declaring that the highly modified Kiev-class carrier, INS Vikramaditya, will be removed from service some time around 2030. Kochin Shipyrds, the primary contractors for the class have declared their belief that the ship's could be built in seven years, with them entering service fully by 2030 and 2032 respectively. A unit cost of $4bn has been agreed by the Indian Government.
Massive aircraft carriers are not all that is required by the Indian Navy however, Destroyers capable of performing air and surface warfare missions are vital for the protection and operation of any carrier fleet. Currently the Indian Navy is procuring four Visakhapatnam-class stealth guided missile destroyers. Once the production run of the Visakhapatnam vessels is complete however the Indian Navy will immediately transfer to production of a new class. The new class would represent a significant leap forward in capabilities, featuring an all new hull and propulsion/power system. It would also mean an end to the P-15 platform of the Delhi, Kolkata and Visakhapatnam destroyers and the inauguration of a new P-18 platform. Subunit cost of $1.5bn is expected. Making the class cost approximately $9-10bn. In terms of capabilities the as-yet unnamed P-18 class will boast a powerful battery of Indo-Israeli Barak-8 WE long-range Sam's along with Nirbhay, Brahmos and Hypersonic Brahmos 2 missiles. As constructed the will fit Barak-1 missiles and AK-630 CIWS for point defence. But refit to an Indian CIWS system will be considered. The Indian Navy will procure the P-18 class between 2025 and 2030.

BTW is quad packing of Barak-8 possible considering it's dimentions compared missile like ESSM?
