was trying to look it up before writing that post, couldn't find the official numbers.Mumbai-High is currently contributing to 14% of India's total oil production and 26% of gas production.
So, how much can these two new field contribute to this?
Lets see if it is able to make any dent in Oil and Gas Imports.was trying to look it up before writing that post, couldn't find the official numbers.
Gas maybe, oil not so much considering 85% of crude is imported with gas fluctuating between 40 - 60%.Lets see if it is able to make any dent in Oil and Gas Imports.
Currently Mumbai High is producing 38% of the Domestic Oil production.

Bombay alone is doing 38% of the domestic production as what I can see in online reports.

Offshore crude production accounts for over 30% of total crude production. How many offshore wells do we have besides Bombay High?
New Oil field was discovered in Rajasthan also last year. Vedanta Group won bid for those fields.Mumbai-High is currently contributing to 14% of India's total oil production and 26% of gas production.
So, how much can these two new field contribute to this?
A friends dad was with ONGC and he used to boast that all oil discoveries were marked for future extraction and not made public. Claimed tons of oil in NE, Bengal delta region, Bay of Bengal, Andamans area.Bombay alone is doing 38% of the domestic production as what I can see in online reports.
Interesting fact is that Assam is still producing Oil in significant quantity even after over 100 years. First refinery there as setup in 1890s.
Does anyone know about the status of oil in the Andamans? I remember reading an article few years ago that there were supposedly billions of barrels of crude in there. The ocean around Andaman and Nicobar Islands falls under the 60,000 Km subduction zone of Indo-Australian plates; and subduction zones in general are a huge potential for crude oil.Lets see if it is able to make any dent in Oil and Gas Imports.
Currently Mumbai High is producing 38% of the Domestic Oil production.
Rumors only. If there was this much of Oil, then even Congress Govt would have started its extraction.A friends dad was with ONGC and he used to boast that all oil discoveries were marked for future extraction and not made public. Claimed tons of oil in NE, Bengal delta region, Bay of Bengal, Andamans area.
Plenty of oil and gas around peninsular India and off Indian coast.
Does it explain Uncle's interest in NE & South India in particular?
Rumors flew thick over YSR's chopper crash.. with claims of a deep state hit over gas extraction & exploration in the Godavari basin though it didn't find much traction and rightly so.
This article keeps appearing every 5 years. Remember reading the same proposal by Amar Nath around 2014-15.The petroleum ministry has told ONGC to give away 60% stake plus operating control in India's largest oil and gas producing fields of Mumbai High and Bassein to foreign companies, according to an October 28 letter to the state-owned company.
