Army men 'drag' terrorists' bodies as they could be booby-trapped: Army officer


Jaipur, Sep 15 South Western Command chief Lt Gen. Cherish Mathson said Saturday the Army personnel dragged bodies of terrorists instead of picking them up as they could be booby-trapped.

The comment comes after a purported video of soldiers dragging a dead Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) militant by chains tethered to his legs in Jammu and Kashmir surfaced, triggering accusations of human rights violation.

This followed an encounter in which three militants were killed and 12 security personnel injured in the state's Reasi district on Thursday.

"Terrorists tie IEDs ( improvised explosive devices) and grenades around their bodies and there is a threat to army men if they pick up the body. It is a drill of the army to drag the body with ropes to save themselves from activated IEDs or other explosives," Mathson said on the sidelines of a press conference on Haifa Day celebrations.

According to an official statement, senior officials of ‘Inter-Services Intelligence’ (ISI) gave detailed information about various strategic intelligence and national security issues with senior cabinet ministers on Wednesday.

According to a statement issued by the Army Media Cell ‘Inter-Services Public Relations’ (ISPR), the Prime Minister appreciated the ISI’s contribution to national security, especially the anti-terrorist efforts. He said that ISI is our first line of defense and is working as the world’s best intelligence agency.

Imran Khan told the ISI officials that his government and the people of Pakistan are standing firmly behind the armed forces and intelligence agencies. He appreciated the unprecedented achievements of these institutions.

Some days ago on 7th September, under an unusual step, Pakistan’s military chief General Kamar Javed Bajwa had advocated the need for strengthening democracy and institutions in the 2-4 country with the threat of coup and The forum was shared with Prime Minister Imran Khan.

While addressing the Defense and Martyrs’ Day program organized by itself at the headquarters of the Army at Rawalpindi, Bajwa said that the continuity of democracy is necessary for the development and progress of the country.

A man from Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut posing as an army officer was arrested on Sunday trying to enter Chaubattia area in Uttarakhand’s Almora district where a joint military training exercise between India and US had started.

Rahul (22) in army uniform and Army CO (commanding officer) written on his car tried to enter Chaubattia, but army personnel there stopped him and sought identification documents, which he could not produce, Virender Pant, senior sub-inspector of Ranikhet Kotwali police station, said.

The army personnel then seized the vehicle and handed Rahul to the police, he said.

Given the sensitivity of the matter, Pant said they are questioning Rahul on why he was posing as an Army officer and what his intentions were.

There were four passengers in the vehicle, who claimed they were sales tax officials and had hired the vehicle for sightseeing the Chaubattia garden. They are being questioned, but no FIR has been lodged against them.

Rahul has been booked under various IPC sections, including 140 (wearing garb or carrying token used by soldier, sailor or airman), and others related to cheating and forgery.

He will be produced in the local court on Monday, Pant said.

As part of the bilateral defence cooperation between India and the US, the two-week long joint military exercise began on Sunday. It will conclude on September 29.

The joint exercise will reportedly simulate a scenario of dealing with insurgents and counter-terrorism environment in mountainous terrain.
