26/11 Mumbai Attacks Insight Helped Prevent A Thousand Deaths In Las Vegas, Says Sheriff

Stephen Paddock, a 64-year-old wealthy former accountant and high-stakes gambler was identified by the police as the man behind the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history when he opened fire from the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino on October 1.

Las Vegas Sheriff Joseph Lombardo had studied the sites of the 26/11 attack in Mumbai

NEW YORK: A handful of quick-thinking Las Vegas police officers may have prevented a thousand deaths after they stormed a hotel and killed the lone shooter, the Sheriff of America's gambling hub, who had visited Mumbai to study the 2008 terror attack, has said.

Stephen Paddock, a 64-year-old wealthy former accountant and high-stakes gambler was identified by the police as the man behind the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history when he opened fire from the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino on October 1, killing 58 people and wounding nearly 500 others, before turning the gun on himself as police closed in.

Recalling the dreadful night, Joseph Lombardo, Sheriff of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said Paddock was firing into a crowd of 22,000 concert-goers using powerful guns.

Mr Lombardo said a small team of Las Vegas police officers -- two K-9 officers, a detective and a SWAT team member -- converged on the Mandalay Bay Hotel and minutes later, they breached the gunman's hotel room door on the 32nd floor.

It was specialised training that allowed them to act so quickly, Mr Lombardo told CBS' 60 Minutes.

"I think they prevented a thousand deaths, and I think it's important for the American public to understand that," he said.

Mr Lombardo had travelled to Mumbai after the November 2008 terrorist attacks on hotels and other sites by Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists that left 164 people dead, including some American nationals.

The sheriff said he had gleaned insight from the trip to Mumbai, and his department now reacts faster to such shootings, quickly forming a team to "cease the action'' of the assailant on their own.
Before we were trained to form a perimeter and hope for the best," Mr Lombardo said. "Now we're trained to gather up and go get it."

Sergeant Joshua Bitsko and Officer Dave Newton of the K-9 unit had been training dogs when they heard the message over police radio about an active shooter.

Mr Newton said he saw many guns and magazines.

"Stacks and stacks of magazines everywhere. Just in suitcases all neatly stacked against pillars, around the room, all stacked up, rifles placed all throughout. All kinds of monitors and electrical equipment he had in there. It just looked like almost a gun store," he said.

Joshua said he saw shell casings all over the floor where Paddock stayed.

"I could smell the -- gunpowder that -- that had went off in the room. We were trippin' over guns. Trippin' over long guns inside. There was so many," he said.

At least 23 guns - 12 of which were equipped with bump-stocks, or rapid fire devices - were found inside Paddock's hotel room.

US authorities have received more than 1,000 tips, but are still struggling to determine what motivated Paddock, who did not have a criminal record, to carry out the carefully planned attack.

No one knows when Paddock committed suicide, but the shooting stopped shortly after hotel security guard Jesus Campos and the first of Sheriff Lombardo's officers arrived on the 32nd floor.

I got a silly question....

It seems that HM & LeT are out of Commanders...what if Pak sends it's own officers as commanders to run the show in J&K.

Assume that we have no info on those Commanders....

What are the chances it to happen in near future?

Gurus @Mikesingh @Kunal Biswas and @Bornubus please answer.

I understand that IA would hunt them too, but there is a lot of difference between a average terrorist and Pak army officer.
HM is the publicity face they are like poster boys of aazadi in Kashmir and they are pathetic in fighting,so instead of Kashmiri making paki army person a commander will decrease there support base and can destroy there very successful peoples movement mission.
LeT dont have that much support base left in Kashmir. so posting a permanent paki army personal in valley will definitely send him 2.5 ft below ground.
JeM they work on target based operations. meens they infiltrate do their job either go to hell or after attack go back to POK. they hardly stay there. so they can send paki army personals with some targets to execute but if we came to know that it was pak army mission then there will be very strong retaliation on other side of LoC

I remember the autistic screechings of the Western world after 26/11. The "these things can never happen in ___________ (Your favorite American or European city). We are not some third world hellhole." The imagery of smug assholes chanting "no time for losers cause we are the champions" kept coming to my mind.

The events of the past 3 years convinced me that even at its shitiest moments (26/11), India and Indians stood taller than any of these blue eyed, golden haired master race.

I feel that these Kashmiri women might become "Targets" . Media is showing that because of these women most of the Terrorists are killed.

What are the chances that other HM, LeT and JeM Terrorists might kill these women as revenge for their dead terrorists.

If these attacks happen, then we might loose one of the sources of information, as other women might not come forward with info.

Gurus... @Mikesingh @Kunal Biswas & @Bornubus please shed some light.

Exactly my thoughts. In the midst of all the self congratulations and back slapping and high fiving, I hope we have plans of keeping our informants safe. Wish that the source of the tip was not revealed at all.

If that happens probably these butiful kashmiri girls will stop loitering with terrorist ba$tards and sit at home at the best. Instead of giving birth to ba$tard sons of these terrorists and later same illegitimate sons claim my ba$tard terror father died in the hands of security forces en make shitty pro terror documentaries.

Let that happen , these honey girls will learn there lessons and realise that its better to get educated than having sex with homophobic mc's.

We dont need to feel sorry for there karma.
