Amy has authorised its soldiers every thing but that every thing supplied by DPSUs and MoD is so pathetic that it is better to throw it off rather than put it on. Army does not control the DPSu and MoD who contract, lay down the lowest prices, accept and inspect contracts. Take for example Balaclavs. Those are made by some PSU in Kanpur but are bad that soldiers prefer to buy rather than bear that perennial itch of govt issued Balaclava.

You mean to say Army should go on hunger strike !!

You do realize that army is free buy anything it requires via tenders. No one is shoving anything down army's throat. IIRC, army issues merely two pairs of fatigues to each jawan hence different camos and boots etc.

Indian Army scouts for TETRA handheld radio sets. The Army has sought an early response from vendors interested in contributing to a test schedule.

This could have been done years ago. There is a reason why armed forces get their own budget.

Another example if you care.

ZSU-23-4 upgrade pursued by the Indian Army. Here, the ZSU-23/4 Shilka mobile gun system is receiving new propulsion, and fire control system, based on an integrated multi-sensor system developed under cooperation between the Indian company Bharat Dynamics and Israel's Aerospace Industrie's MBT.

This was rejected by the army few years back but the RFI for the new guns is issued a couple of months earlier.

Response to RFI be communicated as under:-
(a) Weapon & Equipments (WE-9)
Room No 208G,
Integrated HQ of MoD (Army)
South Block, DHQ PO
New Delhi – 110 011

I am not defending the politicians and bureaucrats but I am also not willing to turn a blind eye on army.
