This incident took place in early 2000s where 2-3 terrorists were holed up a mosque in the srinagar . When our army attempts to flush them out have failed, they called in for NSG. They flew from Delhi and stormed the mosque armed with assault rifles and night vision goggles. In this very encounter, NSg took one casualty.

IB from whatever I have read has no jurisdiction outside India except Nepal.Only RAW is India's external agency while IB is within India .

It seems our commanders have only paras at their disposal, . I wonder why we are not using nsg?

Army's Northern Command/local J&K govt would have to put in a request to MHA to deploy NSG whereas the local army/RR commanders have PARA (SF) teams on call around the clock 24/7 ready and waiting to be called in.

It would require a major re-think by the army if the NSG were to start being called in for these operations, the SOCOM would likely have to be formed or at the very least an NSG hub set up in JK but I don't think the IA wants to give their control away and prefers to keep it in "their house".

there is a clear demarcation on the line between external and internal roles of IB and RAW

IB can operate in countries bordering India if deemed necessary . eg. IB operates in Myanmar and Bangladesh.

IB was involved in Thailand too where they managed to thwart ULFA ,NSCIM ops in the past

RAW targets all external countries of interest as well as neighboring countries.

There have been numerous stand alone CT operations conducted by the NSG's SAG across India from the late 80s from Operation Black Thunder 1 in Punjab, to Kolkata to Karnataka, but that pertained to internal security under the Home Ministry.

For example, in October 1998, as part of the implementation of the Union Home Ministry's decision to conduct pro-active strikes against militants, NSG commando teams supported by IAF helicopter gun-ships struck terrorist groups deep inside the mountains and forests of Kashmir after days of planning. They were placed under command of the Army for that specific op only.

In the present DPS op, the SF were used as they are equally proficient and capable if not more. Also SF is already present in situ and time was of the essence. Remember Pathankot where valuable time was lost in flying in the NSG when the SF were readily available? That was an unforgettable screw-up, thanks to Doval and Co!
