2 jawans in critical condition
How the hell does this keep happening? The CRPF is responsible for road opening. Were they sleeping? This is total dereliction of duty. The CRPF commander on the spot needs to be hauled up for his laxity. The same is happening in Maoist effected areas too. The CRPF has to pull up its socks.

War is unpredictable.
Even the best plans, best equipment, best training and best personal will result in casualties.
Although unacceptable, I wouldn't blame these folks just yet, at least until the full facts are ascertained.

Why the fuck is the army still persisting with Stallions for troop movement?!
Either Vehicle Factory Jabalpur cannot produce the Cassipir MPV's in required numbers or the Army simply doesn't have enough on order, either way it's tragic!
These trucks cannot even give the men inside a fighting chance!
And may the souls of the departed, attain Moksha.

Soldiers in Kashmir fear they are ‘effectively becoming army of occupation’: BBC Report
Kashmir LifePosted on: Saturday, June 3rd, 2017
Srinagar

Quoting Indian army sources a report in BBC has revealed that many army soldiers fear that they are effectively becoming an “army of occupation” in Kashmir.

The report titled as “Why Indian army defended Kashmir ‘human shield’ officer” appeared in BBC.com on May 31.

Indian army sources have told the BBC that morale among soldiers stationed in the valley is very low. Many army soldiers are becoming increasingly uncomfortable with their role in Kashmir, saying they fear they are effectively becoming an army of occupation, says the report.

The report puts in perspective the controversy surrounding the awarding the army major who committed the act of tying a Kashmiri to the front of army jeep and paraded him through many villages of Beerwah area of central Kashmir.

“Major Gogoi says he decided to tie Mr Dar to the jeep in a “fraction of a moment” and subsequently claimed it saved 12 lives. Despite the length of Mr Dar’s ordeal, he argues it created “a window to move out of the area safely”, the report says.

Indian Army Chief on May 28 said backed the act of using a civilian as human shield and termed it as “innovative” saying the Army is fighting a “dirty war” in Kashmir. He said the commendation for major has a purpose of boosting the morale of soldiers.

“We are fighting a legacy of political betrayal, infiltration, rigging in local elections, cynical politics, bad governance, vested interests, religion and regional divides,” one senior army officer in Kashmir told my colleague, Soutik Biswas, a few weeks ago, the report said.

The report further says that many Kashmiris fear that conflict in Kashmir will worsen. “They say that the award of the medal to Major Gogoi has deepened opposition to Indian rule and to the presence of the army,” the report says.

On the issue of worsening conflict , the report quotes Gen Rawat saying “In fact,” he told journalists, “I wish these people, instead of throwing stones at us, were firing weapons at us. Then I would have been happy. Then I could do what I [want to do].”

The report terms General’s views as “extraordinary sentiment” and says it is “a measure of just how difficult India is finding it to keep order in its most restive province”.

“His worry is that Kashmiris are losing their fear of his troops. If that happens, he says, the country is doomed,” the report adds.

The report concludes with a quote from Army chief saying, “Adversaries must be afraid of you and at the same time your people must be afraid of you,” says Gen Rawat. “We are a friendly army, but when we are called to restore law and order, people have to be afraid of us.”

NIA conducts raids in Kashmir, Delhi over terror funding in Valley
Bharti Jain| TIMESOFINDIA.COM | Updated: Jun 3, 2017, 05.08 PM IST
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Last month, NIA had quizzed 3 Kashmiri separatists over terror funding.
  • According to NIA, Pakistan-based terror groups finance terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • Pak-based charity groups collect public donations and then pass on the money to finance terror in J&K.

NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has recovered Rs 1.15 crore in cash and letterheads of Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashker e Taiba in raids conducted on Saturday across Jammu & Kashmir, Delhi and Haryana in a case involving terror funding meant to fuel unrest in the Valley. The raids follow days after NIA converted a preliminary enquiry into the terror funding, allegedly involving Hurriyat leaders, into a regular case.

NIA chief Sharad Kumar told TOI that said 22 locations, including 14-15 in Kashmir and 7 in Delhi, are being raided since early Saturday morning.

An NIA spokesperson said the searches have so far led to the recovery of cash amount of over Rs 1.15 crore, property-related documents, letterheads of banned terrorist organisations such as LeT and HM, pen-drives, laptops, and other incriminating documents.

Fresh locations revealed during the questioning of the inmates will also be searched, the spokesperson added.

According to sources, the locations raided on Saturday are residences and offices belonging to Hurriyat members and big hawala traders suspected to have acted as conduits for terror funds. Some of the locations in Delhi are Greater Kailash, Pitampura and Ballimaran in Chandni Chowk.

One of the NIA teams, which include an Enforcement Directorate representative each, has already recovered cash worth Rs 1.15 crore in the raid at a residential location in Kashmir, TOI has learnt.

As per the case registered by NIA 4-5 days ago, terror funds allegedly sourced from Pakistan-based terror outfits like Lashker e Taiba were used for fuelling unrest in the Valley through incidents of stone-pelting and targeting of schools and public property.

NIA had recently questioned Hurriyat leaders Naeem Khan, Farooq Ahmad Dar @ Bitta Karate and Javed Ahmed Baba @ Prince @ Gazi at Srinagar and Delhi regarding their involvement in raising, collecting and transferring funds through hawala and other channels for terror funding in Kashmir.
