Its a standard LMG in Indian Army Infantry along with Insas LMG..

Bren is meant to retired but remain in many units coz it fires 7.62x51mm nato..

NO it is good old BREN aka LMG.Eventhough now officially retired from army RR loves to use it due to its reliability and heavy stopping power

Yes, those were British Czechoslovakian Brens, with a wider cartridge case base thus making the magazine look like a crescent.

These pros and cons are my personal views:

Pros:

• Good stopping power.
• Easy to fire at elevation from prone position because the magazine is at the top or if the machine-gunner is sitting in a roof mounted trapdoor etc..
• Empty cartridge cases fall downwards and not sideways and hence are less likely to hit a fellow soldier.
• Very easy to change the barrel.

Cons:

• Can only be used by right handed persons because the view-finder is like an L-shaped metal piece near the muzzle on the left-hand side w.r.t. the machine-gunner.
• Heavy and bulky.
• Small magazine capacity.

These pros and cons are my personal views:

• Heavy and bulky.

It lot lighter compare to other 7.62 LMGs, PKM is next fav of IA..



Btw, I heard Bren use a Drum Mag, Do u have any pics or vids on it ?

I found one. This one is a modification though, not a standard setup:

This seems to be similar to the mag of the DEGTYAREV MG of soviets..but how is the user gonna to make aimed shots with these drum mags on bren?

Can you really make aimed shots with a Bren? I thought a machine gun is too unstable for a real aimed shot ...

Also the damn thing looks like it came from the WW2.

Not in Full auto But Bren is damn good in burst shots ( Manual ) and single..

Very accurate..
