A 2000km abaeel and shaheen missile will reach their terminal stage at around 70-80km altitude by which time PDV will destroy them. We need to intercept missiles at even higher altitudes like 150-200km and need maneuvrable missiles which can destroy enemy missiles at boost phase itself
Actually the more time radar gets to track the missile, the more accurate data will be, So I guess it good enough for 2000 KMS missile. May be for 5000k they need around 120-150 altitude.

DRDO should invest in Kinetic kill Vehicle and mid course interception, Mid course interception is quite tough to achieve, US program got delayed by almost 6 years now.

India may have developed its own THAAD-type missile defense system, hints PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today hinted that India may have successfully developed a 'THAAD-type anti-missile defense system.

Narendra Modi today hinted that India may have successfully developed a ‘THAAD-type anti-missile defense system.

Speaking at an election rally at Budaun in Uttar Pradesh today, PM Modi congratulated Indian scientists for developing one of the best missile defense systems at a time when a number of countries, including Pakistan, are busy developing missiles.

PM Modi said that the new system has been successfully developed by Indian scientists and it can destroy any incoming missile at the height of 150 kilometres. “I want to congratulate Indian scientists,” he said,

Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system is one of the recent addition to the US’ anti-ballistic missile arsenal. It has been designed to hit missiles as they dive towards the earth, not when they go up. THAAD can engage with incoming missiles at the maximum altitude of 93 miles above the surface of the Earth. It seems Indian scientists have also developed a similar anti-missile system.

PM Modi didn’t give much details of the new system. However, he took a dig at the opposition parties by saying that the latter would now ask for “proof” about the new system. Earlier, the opposition had asked for proof of the Surgical Strikes carried out by the Indian Army on terror launch pads in Azad Kashmir on September 29.

During the speech, PM Modi also attacked the Samjwadi Party-Congress alliance for the ongoing Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections and said that SP government has made UP unsafe for women.

In December last year, Pakistani army had claimed to have successfully test-fired an enhanced version of an indigenously-designed cruise missile that couldn’t hit targets at 700 kms with all kinds of warheads, bringing many Indian cities within its range. Called ‘Babur’ after the Mughal invader, the missile is part of Babur Weapon System version- 2 and is an enhanced version of the earlier missile, said a PTI report.

The US has announced it would deploy THAAD in South Korea to neutralise the threat from North Korea’s alleged Nuclear ambitions. However, this decision has irked China and become lead to a rupture in Sino-US relationship.

While addressing another rally at Rudrapur, Uttarakhand, he once again talked about the missile and congratulated scientists for the achievement. Modi said, “If anybody fires a missile towards India, it could be destroyed mid-way 150 kilometres in the air. Till now, only 4 or 5 big countries achieved this feat and I want to congratulate Indian scientists for improving security of citizens.”

It seems to be final configuration- Now they can add a booster and reach interception altitude of higher than 200km and Increased range of 1000-1500km to reach post boost phase- It would be interesting If this can be configured for use on Guided missile destroyers-

India is already working on PAD I and AAD I for any missile with 5k range. With this indigenous seeker, it just got few steps closer to that. Now all we need is the completion of floating test range to test fire the same.

this will be end of any significance that china sponsored pakistan missile had infact strategically india has trapped pakistan into missile race with burden on economy and parallely building advanced defence system secretly neutralising any threat

with the joining of MITCR last year the easy avaibility of component system for missile will see india's three fold rise

testing of agni this year is just an example of many things to come

AD1 and AD2 are second stage which has started. Thus PDV is interim measure as it employ AD1 kill vehicle.

India test-fires homemade interceptor missile ‘targeting Pakistan’s Ababeel’

World
by Dawood Rehman | Published on February 11, 2017

BALASORE: Wary of Pakistan’s new surface-to-surface, nuclear-capable missile Ababeel, with a range of 2,200km, India on Saturday successfully test-fired its interceptor missile off the Odisha coast.

The PDV mission is for engaging the targets in the exo-atmosphere region at an altitude above 50 km of earth’s atmosphere, quoted a Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) official as saying.

Officials at Indian Defence Ministry have termed it “a significant milestone in the direction of developing a two-layered Ballistic Missile Defence system.”

The interceptor was launched from Integrated Test Range missile testing facility on Abdul Kalam Island in eastern Indian state of Bhubanewswar, at about 7.45 AM.

“Both, the PDV interceptor and the two-stage target missile, were successfully engaged,” The Hindu quoted a Defence official as saying.

The interceptor’s target was developed for mimicking a hostile Ballistic Missile approaching from more than 2000 km away was launched from a ship anchored in the Bay of Bengal.

Pakistan military last month test-fired its new missile can deliver multiple warheads, using Multiple Independent Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology. Ababeel Weapon System is aimed at ensuring survivability of Pakistan’s ballistic missiles in the growing regional Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) environment.

India’s PDV interceptor

In an automated operation, radar based detection and tracking system detected and tracked the enemy’s ballistic missile. The computer network with the help of data received from radars predicted the trajectory of the incoming ballistic missile.

“PDV that was kept fully ready, took-off once the computer system gave the necessary command for lift-off. The Interceptor guided by high accuracy Inertial Navigation System (INS) supported by a Redundant Micro Navigation System moved towards the estimated point of the interception.

“Once the missile crossed the atmosphere, the Heat Shield ejected and the IR Seeker dome opened to look at the Target location as designated by the Mission Computer.

“With the help of Inertial Guidance and IR Seeker the missile moved for interception. All events were monitored in real-time by the Telemetry/Range Stations, at various other locations.”

Missile Defence System

India has a double-layered BMD system capable of tracking and destroying hostile missiles both inside (endo) and outside (exo) the earth’s atmosphere. The success of the AAD test will boost India strengthen its position in the exclusive club of US, Russia and Israel.

The first phase BMD system capable of killing enemy missiles fired from 2,000 km away is expected to be inducted in the armed forces soon. Development is on for second phase anti-ballistic missile defence system, capable of destroying enemy missiles fired from 5,000 km away.

Developed by DRDO, the 7.5-metre tall interceptor is a single stage solid rocket propelled guided missile equipped with an inertial navigation system and an electro-mechanical activator totally under command by the data uplinked from the ground-based radar.

India interceptor missile test for strategic deterrence: China

The missile is capable of destroying an incoming missile with a strike range of around 2,000 km outside the atmosphere

Beijing: India’s successful test to intercept an incoming missile at high altitude has evoked mixed reactions among Chinese military and strategic experts who believe that advances made by India in anti-ballistic missile technology are aimed at strategic deterrence.

India’s anti-missile test on Sunday intercepting targets outside the atmosphere is more aimed at “strategic deterrence”, as this technology will make its enemies feel the strike power of their missiles is diminished, Wang Ya’nan, a senior editor at Aerospace Knowledge magazine, told state-run Global Times.

The Indian interceptor missile was test-fired from the launch complex-IV on Wheeler Island, just over a minute after the target missile was fired from a ship located nearly 70 km off the Paradip coast.

India is developing a two-tier missile defence system, which will destroy an incoming missile outside the earth’s atmosphere, and if that fails, go on to intercept it within the atmosphere.

The missile is capable of destroying an incoming missile with a strike range of around 2,000 km outside the atmosphere.

While some Chinese military experts agreed that India has made progress in missile interception technology, others cast doubt over the significance of the latest launch.

“It’s hard to conclude whether India’s anti-missile technology has reached a certain level, as they also launched the target missile, so the launch time and ballistic data are all readily available,” the daily quoted an unidentified Chinese missile expert.

He said China has developed relatively mature anti-ballistic missile capabilities based on Russia’s S300 system which are ready for combat, but India is still experimenting with it.

China bid to sell its Red Flag-9 anti-missile system to Turkey last year in a potential $3.44 billion deal, although NATO then exerted pressure on Ankara to abandon the deal, which still hangs in the balance.

Song Zhongping, a former lecturer on missile technology and now military affairs commentator in Beijing, said India’s new interceptor missile “could only be similar to the level of Chinese missiles in the 1990s”.

He said that the target missile was not advanced and lacks effective evasive techniques which had made it easier for the interceptor to strike the target.

In real combat, however, it is hard for even the most advanced interceptors produced by the US, such as the Patriot missile, to hit Chinese missile targets, another missile expert said.

India has tested seven interceptor missiles in recent years of which six were successful.

The expert admitted China’s anti-missile technology is at least 15-20 years away from the US, in terms of the response time, target accuracy and comprehensive information technology. PTI

Guys where Pakistan is today (woth 2000 plus kms range missiles) India was in 1990 playing with Agni TD now Agni2.

We have tons of data not only our own missiles but from data generated by Pakistani missiles, as we can monitor them from launch to all the way to target location.

Therefore these target missile RV are memic speed of enemies RV. They are tested in live simulated conditions. Plus hundred of simulators and electronic target simulations are carried out.

Wait for new Pakistani missile.

Name:AbbaXin

This new missile will have a in built radar that will track the interceptor and fire a warhead to destroy the interceptor. Then the rest of the war heads will hit kafir hindooostan and do Ghazwa E Hind.

The Missile can be fired from Land,Sea,Air,Space,Shoulder etc.Its been infused with roohani taqat to be a kafir destroyer.Paki scientists were shown in ther dream how to make this missile.

Wait for the test in couple of days.

Its in their great interest to under estimate our capabilities......lol.

Few pages back i posted that Chinese says even Uncle not achieved capabilities of warhead.....which we shown years ago (forget uncle he is the Lord of tech).
