We cannot even manufacture a 9 mm carbine?

Seems that the reports of poor Indian educational standards are rather true.

ARDE and DRDO are working on a replacement for the INSAS. Its a multi barrrel rifle that looks like the FN 2000.

If this carbine is inducted, will it kill any chance of the F INSAS rifle being inducted?

Its a shame India cannot standardize its kit. They will have a salad bowl of small arms soon.

More than 60 years after independence, India is unable to produce a simple gun to equip its army with. And people dream of being a "superpower". :pound:

The calibre remains the same:

  • INSAS LMG: 5.56x45mm
  • INSAS AR: 5.56x45mm
  • INSAS SMC: 5.56x30mm

Also, AFAIK, the tolerance in INSAS AR and LMG is so kept that it can easily be converted to use 5.56x30mm ammo. [correct me if I am wrong]

No, For that you have to Modified Insas heavily, Also 5.56 x 30mm is a sub-machine gun cartage not for LMG or AR..

5.56X30mm is for low recoil, Lower velocity Bullet compare to AR 5.56 x 45mm..

I see.

I have seen (also used) a conversion, originally an AR-15 but modified to take shorter bullets (same calibre). Don't know extensive the modification was.

If you change the Mag and the size of the Ammo, you change the lower receiver and small modification to the upper receiver..

The gas tubes may remain the same so does trigger assemble and the barrel, But chamber may not remain the same as the bullet dimensions are not the same..

1. Upper Receiver
2. Lower Receiver
3. Gas Block
4. Forearm
5. Barrel
6. Muzzle Attachment
7. Charging Handle
8. Bolt Carrier Group
9. Delta Ring Assembly
10. Ejection Port
11. Forward Assist
