If you meant -40 degree C then yes. Your clothing is going to keep your body heat from escaping, not your vest. If you meant extreme heat then the vest air breathable and modular.
when was the last time you wore a suit(regular business suit) and walked some distance in the afternoon on the road in the indian summer mate?

with this, i will end this conversation.

The "vest" is horrendous. You can keep the boron carbide plates. Switch the vest with MKU or Armasen's tac vests.
The SMPP vest was ordered in 2018. Before that testing took place, where MKU did not meet the requirement. The order will take 3 years to complete. Hence by the end of this year, the order should be complete.

However, MKU alleges that they also meet the tender requirement, but lost out on price. There was a allegation last year, that SMPP was using Boron carbide powder as raw material imported from China, to keep the cost down. SMPP denied those allegations

Now coming to the design, the design was based on GSQR 1438. It was based on IA's operational experiences in J&K. The groin and neck area can also have HAPs instead of SAPs. But it will exceed the weight requirement. If you ask me, I would also recommend shoulder pads to the design.

As of 2020, both MKU and SMPP have come up with new designs and new plate technology. Further, DRDO, BARC and Army's own CME has joined them. Hence, next order will see interesting competition to select the best design.

PS: I also like to Armasen Tactical designs. They have come up will very nice plate carriers, based on their imagination and research, that are based on what Western nations especially NATO SFs are using. Obviously, any new kid who has no access to Indian Army establishment would try that route. However, what remains to be seen is how well the ArmasenTactical's plate carrier designs are received in IA. They haven't bagged a big order yet.

However, their main drawback is that they do not produce the plates and hence they need to tie up with a third party in order to compete in the future tenders of BPJ of IA.

Also, another important question is what kind of fabric are they using in their plate carriers. It is not clear from their social media videos released by Armasen Tactical that whether they are sourcing some commercial grade fabric from third party or not. However, based on the newly issued IS 17051:2018 standards for BPJs, the fabric must meet cetain requirements.

Sad news from Desert Scorpions!

Army’s captain of desert warfare specialised unit feared drowned: Police

Jodhpur, Jan 7 (PTI) A captain of Army’s 10 Para (Special Forces) was feared drowned in a lake here on Thursday during a training exercise to rescue people trapped in water bodies, said police.

Captain Ankit Gupta of 10 Para (SF), the Army’s specialised unit for desert warfare, jumped into the Kalyana lake from a helicopter as part of the training exercise, but could not come up with other trainees, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar police station’s SHO Jai Kishan Soni said.

The SHO said the Para 10 (SF) had been conducting the training exercise at the Kalyana Lake on outskirts of Jodhpur on Thursday afternoon.

As the captain did not show up after jumping into the lake, a rescue operation involving policemen, SDRF personnel and divers was launched promptly but his body could not be located till late in the evening, said the SHO.

As a part of the exercise, some jawans had jumped into the lake from a helicopter to hone their skills in saving a drowning person. They were supposed to hold the drowning person and rescue him safely back to the helicopter, he said.

The para 10 SF personnel initially tried to locate Capt Gupta on their own, but when they failed to do it, they informed their seniors, who rushed to lake and a search operation involving experts was launched, said the SHO.

On getting the information, the police also rushed to the spot and roped in SDRF, the civil defence team and some private divers to search the drowned officer.

According to some sources, Captain Gupta had come out and had been holding the hands of the rescuers during exercise but slipped and fell back into the water.

A Twitter post from the Indian army said the boats would be used for patrols in high altitude regions as well – an indication that the order was being placed for patrolling the Pangong Tso lake in Ladakh – one of the sites of the ongoing military standoff between India and China.

The Human Rights Cell of the Indian Army will be a nodal point for examining any form of human rights violation reports. For enhancing transparency and ensuring that investigative expertise is available, an Indian Police Officer of the rank of SSP/SP will also be taken on deputation.

The post of the first Additional Director General Human Rights is part of the several reforms that have been announced by the Indian Army. While the Indian Police Officer who will also be a part of the cell will not only assist in the legalities and investigations but will also be able to assist the coordination with other organisations, even the Home Ministry if required.

Special Forces’ Captain Ankit Gupta remains missing, search on at Jodhpur lake.

10 SF personnel initially tried to locate Captain Gupta but informed their seniors after they failed. Search operations were carried out throughout Friday with no luck.

Five rescue teams, including from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), continue to search for 10 Para (Special Forces) Captain Ankit Gupta, who drowned during a training exercise at Takhat Sagar Lake in Jodhpur on Thursday.

Captain Gupta is the commander of 10 Para Special Forces, which was selected as the best unit of the year (2020) in the Indian Army. As a part of a drill, he jumped from a helicopter into the Takhat Sagar reservoir on Thursday. Three other commandos also jumped with him, but Captain Ankit could not come out.

The army’s search operation in the lake started Thursday afternoon but had to be halted after dark.
“The teams of NDRF, SDRF, civil defence and army are continuously searching for the submerged captain, but he is still missing. As part of the exercise, some jawans jumped into the lake from the helicopter to improve their skills in rescuing drowned people,” said SHO Jaikishan Soni.

He added that 10 Para personnel initially tried to locate Captain Gupta but informed their seniors after they failed. Search operations were carried out throughout Friday with no luck.
During the exercise, the commandos of the 10 Para had to throw their boats in the water and jump from a helicopter.

“After this, they were to attack the enemy by riding on a boat. Under this mission, four commandos led by captain Ankit threw their boat first into the Takhat Sagar reservoir and then jumped into the water themselves. Three commandos reached the boat, but Captain Ankit could not. After waiting a bit, the commandos started searching for him,” said a senior police official from Jodhpur.

28-year-old Ankit, a resident of Gurugram, got married less than two months ago on November 23, 2020.
“His passion for the army can be gauged from the fact that he stayed with his wife for a very little period after marriage and returned to complete his special training,” the police official said.

The unit, famously known as the Desert Scorpions, is among the most battle hardened units of the Indian Army.
