Pinaka Rocket`s GPS kit ..

GPS Antenna:

Increased application of Global Positioning Systems (GPS) for navigational aids, necessitated the development of low profile antennas. Two types of low profile antennas, viz., Wraparound Microstrip Antenna for Pinaka Rocket and Quadrifilar Helix Antenna for manpack GPS have been developed by DRDO. The development of GPS antenna for Pinaka, along with its feed network, is a challenging task as it requires antenna to be conformal with the cylindrical body of the rocket. Quadrifilar Helix Antenna is one of the preferred antennas for GPS application owing to its smaller size and cardioid pattern.

Specifications>>

Centre frequency : 1575.4 MHz
Bandwidth : 3 MHz
Polarisation : RHCP
Gain : Better than 0 dB
VSWR : < 2:1
Radiation pattern : Hemispherical
Axial ratio : < 6 dB
The antennas have been fabricated, tested and are undergoing field trials.

Its hard to tell whether its a vane type control like on IMI's TCS or disc type airbrake control on French SPADICO.

Sure we can, In fact they want there entire Arty to be Indian origin ..

But Our Government of present will not let that happen, In an excuse they made a statement that OFB cannot do that because they dont have capacity to do so ..

I can't say about quality but for quantity

A senior official at GCF Jabalpur said that the order was received in 2010 and so far 100 pieces have been delivered. Another 50 are expected to be dispatched this year. The source confirmed that this was the biggest order in the recent past.

Chinese companies can sell weapons to anyone and everyone possible, even Zimbabwe, without any scruples. French are known for their impartiality in selling weapons globally (They are selling ships to Russia even now). Israelis are same and so are British and Americans. Hence, Indian shyness of selling weapons is kind of outrageous and ridiculous.

Why can't you make a negative list for manufacturers and any item which is not on the list can be sold to anyone, anywhere?

In addition, Indian 105mm field guns are indigenous products. Kalyani and Tata are building 155 mm guns. There are many more other examples in other equipment sectors. So why does Indian government wants to pay to Russia for supplying weapons to Afghanistan, when Indian companies are more than eager to do the same? Afghans themselves didn't make any such request. They are even asking for second hand products which may not be in use in Indian forces.

Why this hurry to run to Russian factories for weapons and give them money and jobs? Is there something else also involved which we don't know?

Re: Modernisation for Indian 105mm Light Field Guns.

There is a large Russian lobby influence over Indian MOD and Indian Government, Even In India Our National Defense Industry is kept low on buget so they cannot make sufficient arms and hence lot of imports with large kickbacks, Even imported stuff we get are turned to be duds in many ways ..

When we talk about exporting, Even when our Industry can do they are suppressed by our own under some other`s influence ..

I think one of the reason India is not supplying any weapons that are made in India is because of pakistan, may be Indian government is worried that those weapons might end up in pakistan some how.

We supply small arms to Nepal so we can supply to Afghanistan too but I think pakistan is the sole reason for not going ahead

Now since NDA is back in power it seems likely that the ban on Denel, IMI and other defence manufacturers is lifted and the army is finally given much needed artillery. These last 10 years of UPA under Sonia and her useless defence minister Antony will be remembered as 10 wasted years for our armed forces. Hope the next defence minister sets right the numerous wrongs of Antony. Perhaps the Bhim project with the Denel gun and turret will be back. Wish even the G6 is purchased for our forces in large numbers. It is known that the army was keen on leasing a large number of G6 from Denel during the kargil conflict. Indian army is the only major army in the world without a proper Self propelled howitzer.

India's 2 towed howitzer competitions, and its 2 self-propelled artillery procurements, have mostly served as cautionary tales. If the stakes weren't so high, they'd qualify as farce. The simple process of buying off-the-shelf artillery guns has become a decades-long affair filled with legal drama, accusations of corruption, and multiple re-starts – but not one new gun. Competitions are declared, and canceled, again and again. One is on its 5th iteration. Another is on its 3rd. Meanwhile, India's stock of operational 155mm FH77 howitzers has dwindled to around 200, and their last successful artillery buy was over 2 decades ago. Is there an end in sight to any of these competitions? Or a potential winner?
