not trying to be offensive but your "kalantak" assault rifle looks like
early model galil rifle (south American best seller )
is this a mistake in identification or a licensed production
It probably does. May I request you to post your message in the relevant thread? I am making this request for the second time. Just click on the blue box with two tiny white arrows next to my name in the beginning of the second quote in post #110.

Indian Army to award $10 bln contract for combat vehicles

Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), Ashok Leyland (ALL), Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and Bharat Forge are among those who have submitted their bid for a $10 billion Indian defence ministry contract.

According to a news report in the Financial Express, the ministry will shortlist two vendors who will be responsible for the supply of Futuristic Infantry Combat Vehicles (FICVs) for the Indian Army.

The defence ministry has asked only the Indian companies to submit their bid. They will finalise the winning firms by July end, based on technical and commercial criteria under the 'buy & make' category.

India's former Main Battle Tank [MBT] Vijayanta at Avadi [Photographs]

Found these pictures of the Main Battle Tank, Vijayanta, earlier in service with the Indian Army. These are licensed manufactured British Vickers Tanks that were later successfully adapted for use in varied configurations as Bridge laying, Armoured Recovery Vehicle etc. Successful demonstration involving incorporation of a more powerful & reliable power-plant & up-gunning its main gun to a higher caliber were also made, but did not find a favorable response from the end-user.
They were to be withdrawn from service by 2008. Counted four of them at my place, being used as monuments outside defence establishments - quite imposing, they look.
The Heavy Vehicles Factory [HVF] in Avadi [an acronym for Armoured Vehicles and Ammunition Depot of India], Tamil Nadu currently houses the country's only assembly line needed for putting together battle tanks in service with the Indian Army.

Futuristic infantry combat vehicle set to roll
Published July 17, 2011
SOURCE: DHNS

The Ministry of Defence (MoD), which had called for the request of proposal (RFP) for the Rs 1,00,000-crore futuristic infantry combat vehicle (FICV) project earlier this year, is likely to shortlist two of the contending firms by July-end.About 10 private firms, including the Tata's, Larsen and Toubro (L&T) and the Mahindra & Mahindra-BAE Systems joint venture Defence Land Systems India (DLSI) are among the firms waiting to be shortlisted for a project that will see the Army procure at least 2,500 such vehicles.

The Centre, MoD sources said, is keen on firms with foreign collaborations/tie-ups and that they will have an edge over the others as the project will require high precision.
The MoD had completed the field and facility visits of companies it had shortlisted in February. Sources claimed it had asked for assurance of overseas transfer of technology (ToT).

Also, the Centre is particular that the execution of the project lie in the hands of a domestic firm, although the need for foreign collaboration is almost a 'mandate'.
US defence major General Dynamics is also said to be in the fray looking for possible tie-ups with Indian firms to bag the deal. The US firms competing for the other major defence contracts in India – the $10 billion medium multi-role combat aircraft (MMRCA) for the Indian air Force lost to their European competition.

The project will set a new precedence in the Indian defence procurement system. It has not only encouraged pure private participation for what defence sources term a "sensitive" project but it will also do away with the system of granting the deal on the basis of the lowest bid, a strong feature in Indian projects.

While the Centre is evidently keen on private participation and execution of the project, it is also seeking participation from a foreign firm, or a technology transfer from them to assure high quality product.

Concord 8 (C8) Lightweight Armoured Vehicle, India

Type : New lightweight armoured vehicle development
Manufacturer : Concord Safety
Completion : July 2009
Payload Capacity : 650kg
Power-to-Weight Ratio : More than 25kW/t
Engine : 3l
Horse Power:115 kW @ 3200 RPM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Concord 8 (C8) is a four-wheel drive lightweight rugged armoured vehicle designed for the Indian defence market. Developed by Concord Safety Systems, the Indian partner of Arotech, the vehicle offers high mobility and bullet-proof protection. The prototype of the vehicle was manufactured at the Dehradun Concord facility.

Drivable on all terrain types, the vehicle is ideal for combating an insurgency, transporting logistics, providing protection to reconnaissance and convoys, and conducting search and rescue missions.

The C8 is currently undergoing trials with the Northern Command of the Indian Army. It will be delivered to the Indian paramilitary and police forces before the end of 2009.

Design

The C8 has been designed using the expertise derived from the development of David MDT's lightweight armoured vehicle. Based on the Indian 44 platform, the C8 can accommodate up to six soldiers, and a driver, along with their entire combat gear and loads.

"The C8 armoured vehicle is currently undergoing trials with the Northern Command of the Indian Army."The vehicle is air-conditioned with interiors designed to provide maximum flexibility. Doors are wide enough to enable quick entry and exit. The seating arrangement is flexible and can be customised in to either a four or a six-seat configuration.

There are five gun ports and 12V/24V battery options. To withstand the impact of a massive collision, the vehicle has been installed with heavy duty bumpers.

At the rear of the vehicle, two multipurpose storage boxes have been fitted in case additional ammunition is required. A blower attached inside the C8 absorbs acid gases released when the soldiers are shooting from inside the vehicle.

A four-wheel drive, the C8 is equipped with a power steering and run-flat tyres. The vehicle also has water-fording capability and a high ground clearance. At the minimum level, the ground clearance level of the C8 is 190mm, while the maximum ground clearance level is 207mm. The payload capacity of Concord is up to 650kg and the vehicle has a double wishbone suspension system.

The C8 has optional features including a communication system, a GPS, a PA system, siren, radio and a remote-controlled searchlight. The vehicle can also be equipped with a beacon, communication racks, additional ammunition box holders and selective up-armouring. The fuel tank can be provided with additional protection. The body of C8 can be extended to increase the inside space of the vehicle.

C8 engine

The C8 is equipped with a 3l Dura Torque TDCi engine with variable geometry turbo charger. It provides a horse power of 115kW at 3,200rpm. The C8 features a five-speed manual gear box and has a common rail direct injection fuel system. The vehicle's air pressure tanks have a maximum capacity of 71l.

The C8's power-to-weight ratio is over 25kW/t. Its high power-to-weight ratio enables it to transport extra combat loads while providing powerful ballistic protection to the crew compartment, engine and fuel tank. The engine is provided with ballistic protection up to level B-6.

Concord 8 protection

The Concord provides protection from Grenade splinters, even those that fall on the sides of the vehicle, which are composed of ballistic steel that can withstand direct hits of the 5.5645mm Indian National Small Arms System (INSAS) and 7.6239mm AK47 and 56 rifles.

"C8 can accommodate up to six soldiers, and a driver, along with their entire combat gear and loads."However, the vehicle is not fitted with any weapons and cannot provide protection from mine blasts.

Contractors

The C8 has been developed by Arotech's Armour division in India, Concord Safety Systems, which is a joint venture between MKU, JN Group and MDT Armour Corporation. The joint venture was formed in January 2006 to design and manufacture armoured vehicles in India.

David MDT

A key vehicle in the portfolio of MDT, David, from which the C8 is derived, is a light weight armoured vehicle designed for low intensity conflict. Composed of extremely-high-hardness steel and composite materials, the vehicle offers AP protection to a troop of seven. It can accommodate up to six passengers at any given in addition to the driver. David has been adopted by the Israel Defence force for its standard operations including armoured reconnaissance and patrolling.
