DRDO has its own designs for FMBT which will compete with other nation FMBTs, Just like Arjun vs T-90 joint trails..

The section of FMBT video is fantastic....I think private companies should come forward and work on FMBT.
I don't trust DRDO guys...If they makes fmbt,it will see the same fate of arjun...and same russian junk will be imported this time with Baigan shells instead of mango shells.

The R&D infrastructure is worth trillions and no Pvt.co has ability to have such, R&D is very sensitive, It should be remain under GOI control this is where DRDO comes, The JV between DRDO and Private.co such as TATA with DRDO which gave kestrel is a gud example ..

The corruption in Armed forces does not differentiate between Pvt or Government work, Their are moles within who want to make quick money and will do whatever necessary ..

FICV project for example was halted due to a simple clerical error for 3 years or more latter this group wanted to dump the FICV project and go for BMP3, But the present Government denied this and went ahead with FICV ..

Invisible Indian Tank!

Surprising but true, in near future Indian Tanks, IFV, APC etc are going to be totally invisible to the enemy!

The Indian Army has sought a camouflage system to make its armoured fighting vehicles apparent invisible to all kinds of existing sensors. The army wants a system through "Electronic Camouflage" which will blend the vehicle in its surrounding. This will enable the vehicle to change the livery of the tank with the changing background. In another ambitious option, the army has suggested for development of ‘Quantum Stealth’, a new revolutionary system being developed by a Canadian company, where a special new kind of composition would make the light waves around the target bending thus making invisible to naked eye, blocking infrared thus invisible to Night Vision and stopping the flux of thermal signatures and even the shadow of the vehicle. The modern sensors can locate armoured vehicles mainly through their heat and radar signature . But the new project will change the future of armoured warfare.

Indian Army wants electronic camouflage for Tanks
The Indian Army has sought a camouflage system to make its armoured fighting vehicles invisible to all kinds of sensors, said an army report.

The army in the report said the modern sensors can locate armoured vehicle — tanks and personnel carriers — through their heat and radar signature and to ensure the safety of the vehicles it desires protective systems that can render the vehicle completely invisible.

“The sensors are fitted right from satellites, aircrafts, helicopters, UAVs in the third dimension to the ground-based long range surveillance equipment operating continuously during day and night. Thus, camouflage now is a necessity for survivability of the force right from the time it moves out of its permanent locations to the time it prosecutes its might on the enemy,” the report said.

The Indian Army on March 24 released the ‘Compendium of Problem Statements, Volume II’ here.

The 28 new problem statements, part of Volume II, would allow the industry and academia to understand the needs of the army and come up with indigenous solutions for military requirements.

At present, the armoured vehicles are camouflaged through paints and multi spectral camouflaged nets. These passive methods do not provide the level of protection that is required in future conflict scenario.

The army has asked the industry to come up with the solution through electronic camouflage which will blend the vehicle in its surrounding. This would enable the vehicle to change the image of the hull in concert with the changing environment.

In another option, the army has suggested for development is that of ‘Quantum Stealth’, a system being developed by a Canadian company, where a special material would make the vehicle invisible by bending the light waves around the target and will also removes infrared (night vision) and thermal signatures and also the shadow of the vehicle.

Speaking to IANS, Maj. Gen. Rajiv Narayanan, former Additional Director, Military Operations, said: “That’s the way ahead. It generates artificial signature around it. It can deceive the enemy. We cant wish it away.”

“You need futuristic technology for Indian industry and academia,” said Narayanan while talking about the idea behind the sharing of problems with industry, “This kind of projects will improve the thinking of academia. As researchers come to DRDO from academia it will also benefit.”

The first volume, with 50 problem statements, was released on December 5 last year.

But Dada,why would BSF require such offensive weapons.As far as I understand SPGH are required to mount offense along with the mobile Mechanised columns.Whereas BSF is only mandated to patrol the international boundaries...

Its good that IA is thinking of metamaterials for stealth applications, however, no technology is a silver bullet. And metamaterials and active camo tech is already an advanced research field in UK. But we are yet to see a design that can make it to user trials. IMHO, we have a long way to go before we see invisible tanks (pun intended) in the IA. I think, that they'll only use this tech for hiding IR signatures or for protecting against enemy night vision.

BTW, I think such tech will be used ny the Navy long before its adopted on tanks.

The R&D knowledge we gained from Abhya project was applied & we have tata kestrel ..

I hope the kestrel won`t ended up as a TD as well ..
