S-400 in Syria is to protect Russian assets in Latakia and not for protecting Assad and his military per se. (it can also gather radar signatures and ELINT of NATO and Israeli aircraft as well)
Therefore, Israel has bombed Syrian targets without S-400 engaging.

Russia had deactivated the S-400 system in Syrian city after S-300 installation. These were not used at all. The S 300 were deployed and operational in 2018 not the S 400.

S-400 is there to collect data and protect only Russian assets. While S-300 is for Syrians.

Q1) total of 290 sukhois will form 14 squads or 15 squads? I guess 15 but just want to confirm....
Now my point -
>15 sukhoi squadron
>6 Tejas Mk1/1A (definite timeframe and pipeline)
>4 squads of Rafale
>4 squads of Mig 29
>3 squads of Mirage 2000I
That is 32 squads of quality 4+ to 4++ generation aircrafts before the MK2 even starts to come.
This does leaves aside 5-6 squadrons of Jaguar. (Atleast Jaguars will be there for us to keep the numbers inflated further:biggrin2

Though we dont know if MMRCA 2.0 will be reality or not but we do know that if it will reach a conclusion Rafale will be the selected one.
Some analysts also believe that 36 more are being ordered so that their is no time lag between Rafale produced as part of MMRCA 2.0 and the rafale deliveries that are happening as part of govt to govt deal.
Though both options of either going for 72 + 114 or just 72 Rafales both are fine but much shall depend upon what French can give in return and do we have the money. As India wants a lot of Rafale tech in AMCA and is slating it to be Rafale ++, then options are very much open on further buying Rafales , taking the total deal to 186 fighters plus 57 naval as well......
One deep worry overall is deep cuts in defence spending in last few years by the virtue of not increasing much of capital budget of the armed forces ....... lets see if the govt will be more liberal in spending some bucks ....... though spending bucks is not the only solution to all problems as well (we can atleast learn this from Congress era)......

Enough is enough. We need to retire all Mig21s. It's better to have fewer fighters than to artificially bolster our numbers through an obsolete and unsafe 60 year old plane. 250 sukhois + 70 Mig 29s + 40 Mirage 2000s are enough to defend the skies for now. And yes, Abhinandhan shot down an f 16 with a Mig 21, but it still doesn't justify having these in the air.

Atleast Pakistanis didnt kill our pilot while Mig21 crashes has killed many. We should thank Pakistan for that, one less Mig21 without loss of a pilot

I never speculate about crashes before Court of Inquiry is done but we have seen enough evidence already that these jets are well past their expiry date.

They don't crash that regularly anymore though.. about at the same rate as Jaguars now. Their crash-rate is lowest in the lifetime now that they are at their last legs!!

I think it's because the Khangress era govt didn't buy enough spare parts for proper maintenance.

Still people need s reason to replace them ..with Tejas...

IAF ain't gonna order more Tejas Mark1 FOC, so frontline Mig-21 start being replaced by them after 2022.
