Tejas will be powered with Kaveri-Safran. We have enough stock of F404s for the present requirements, the impact on F414 that were supposed to power AMCA needs to be assessed.

P8Is are based on a commercial platform so spares and repairs should be less problematic. Moreover, none of them are critical systems as such. Missile systems, defence systems, combat jets on the other hand will be far more of a problem. This is why our critical systems should never ever be sourced from the US.
Did India just dumped United States and Signed up Eurojet EJ200 for AMCA with U.K?

U.K. Secretary of State for Defence Sir Michael Fallon literally dropped a bomb when he said that India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and British Aerospace engine major Rolls-Royce are collaborating in co-development of a new gas turbine engine.

Fallon just fell short of naming the engine which he was referring to but added that gas turbine engine in development will be highest thrust gas turbine engine developed by the company.

Fallon also confirmed that the technology demonstrator of the co-developed engine will be ready in 12 months. idrw.org in an article posted (Trump Effect: Indo-US Joint defence collaboration in jet engines technology on Back Burner ?? ) few days back had hinted at discord and lack of any positive movement on proposed Indo-US collaboration on developing an uprated engine based on General Electric Aviation developed F-414 jet engines under Trump Administration.

EuroJet Turbo Company who at Aero India 2017 had confirmed to idrw.org that they are still willing to offer Eurojet EJ200 engine for AMCA just clinched the deal? EuroJet Turbo GmbH had offered to co-develop EJ2x0 which has potential to generate 30% more power compared to the original EJ200 with a reheated output of around 120 kN from current 90kN developed by Eurojet EJ200 engine.

AMCA India’s proposed 5th Generation Multi-role fighter jet has engine thrust requirements of 110kN. India’s shelved Kaveri project is being revived with help from Safran of France, which might power LCA-Tejas MK1A fighter in the future. Just to add a word of caution Indian media or DRDO is yet to confirm if India and UK are actually co-developing EJ2x0 engines for AMCA, we will have to wait to get official confirmation or clarity.

The United States government has said it will allow India to receive more US high technologies and military items without a requirement for individual export licences.US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said in a statement on 30 July that the provision is in line with the United Statesʼ decision to designate India as a ‘major defence partner’.The easing of US export rules will be facilitated by moving India into tier one of the Department of Commerce’s (DOC’s) Strategic Trade Authorization (STA) mechanism, which expands the scope of exports that can be made to India without individual licenses, subjectto the Export Administration Regulations.Ross added that the “STA Tier 1 treatment” provides India with the same level access to US military technologies as NATO allies.

COMCASA is the price. But it is different from CISMOA as only USA made equipments are under it. India need not put any of these communication devices on Indian made or other country made equipments. So, India can get good technology for learning while not causing any harm to India. India can simply keep the equipment for minimal usage but gain major technology from them to be used in indian items.

Thats almost 100% guaranteed to be signed at or after 2+2 dialogue. Also expect some major deals : S70B Seahawk, Guardian drones and even perhaps finalising of joint tech group on Next Gen military apparel.

"India and United states sign the COMCASA, which will open up the way for sales of more sensitive U.S. military equipment to India"

Translation : India has made one stupid decision, which will allow India to make more stupid decisions.

Up next : RFI for F35 jets.

From US State department press readout.
i think this is the first time de-hyphenation of India Pak is being mentioned officially..
==============

QUESTION: One thing on the – it just seems like the optics between the visit yesterday and the meetings today are so much different. I mean, when he was – landed in Islamabad, he was met by like a protocol officer. He comes here, and the external affairs minister greets him at the airport with a bouquet of flowers and shows him into his car. And the things that you guys are saying about Pakistan now seem essentially identical to what you were saying when the State Department cut security assistance last January. It just doesn’t seem like anything’s changed in that relationship with Pakistan and the Secretary saying exactly what Secretary Tillerson said.

SENIOR STATE DEPARTMENT OFFICIAL: But I would say the more important point is what you started with. It’s a mistake to try to hyphenate India and Pakistan. These are relationships that are utterly separate: a strategic partnership, burgeoning strategic partnership with India, one in which we’re laying out foundations for what you can see down the road is going to be an increasingly robust military, economic, diplomatic relationship; whereas, with Pakistan, we’re confronting existential questions about the relationship and about what Pakistan – what role Pakistan is prepared to play in the international community.

COMCASA will facilitate only a handful of deals : 1. We will be buying more sophisticated P-8i.
2. For armed predator drones.
3. They will pitching Patriot to us.

Not just these. Primary is real time data sharing between us and them. Their intel played an extremely crucial role during the Doklam crisis.

And it's not intel. EW.

Future of India-US relationship is brighter than ever before. This should have been long time ago but ,finally the historic mistakes are being corrected.
I am super-impressed with India's women leaders, Mrs. Sushma Swaraj and Mrs. Sitaraman. They came across very professional, composed and articulate and represented India in proper manner.
Mr Pompeo and Mr Mattis were equally impressive and were cordial and sensitive towards India's concerns.
I think S-400 issue was ignored so India is getting S-400. Iran oil issue is unclear.

This agreement will allow India access to critical technology which will revolutionise the defence manufacturing.
India will emerge as a hub of defence manufacturing, this also helps in product development and manufacturing as most of the defence technologies find their way into ordinary life.

Hope this will not be like Software revolution as most Indians helped US MNC's instead of establishing startups here.

Distrust towards USA in India has roots in how badly India was treated in last few decades and how a cunning and dishonest Pakistan was loved .....I understand that this illogical and principle-less policy was to serve a bigger goal of defeating Communism.
Times have changed..Communism failed. Capitalism and free enterprise has become the accepted wealth creation method...only matter unresolved is of socio-economic justice to have every citizen share equitably (not equally) in the wealth created.
At this point, US and India are at converging point..both are democracies believing in rule of Law, open society, freedom of expression and private property rights. Lots of common values to become natural allies.
There is no need to worry about trustworthiness of USA now under current changed global scenario.
