India-US-Japan plan major naval exercise with Nuclear Carriers and Subs ; China gets the jitter

India and the US are all set to conduct naval exercise Malabar in the Bay of Bengal in July, the first major military drill after Donald Trump took over as President.

Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Force will also participate in the naval drill that will be bigger and more complex than all previous editions.

Indian Navy sources said a planning conference would be held soon in the US to firm up the dates and warships that will take part in the exercise. This will be followed by a final planning conference in India where the scenarios to be simulated during the exercise to boost the abilities of the participating navies for joint operations will be finalised.

China has been suspicious of the trilateral engagement and has even lodged protests over Japan’s participation. Beijing is expected to closely monitor the exercise at a time when the Chinese navy is expanding its footprint in the Indian Ocean region.

An Indian Navy officer said the drills could see the participation of aircraft carriers, nuclear-powered submarines and frontline warships. He said the P-8I and the P-8A ‘submarine hunter’ planes of the Indian and US navies would also be involved in the drills, simulating anti-submarine warfare missions.

The two simultaneously inducted the P-8 platform—a military derivative of Boeing's 737-800 commercial aircraft and christened P-8A for the US Navy—four years ago.

“The exact composition of the participating units will be known after the final planning conference is over. But the drills will be more complex than any previous engagement,” he added.

In 2015, India and the US renewed a significant pact to deepen bilateral defence cooperation in several security-related areas. The US-India Defence Framework Agreement aims to strengthen military-to-military engagements, improve technical cooperation and bolster overall strategic partnership till 2025.

India and the US are in the final stages of operationalising the Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA) that sets down the guidelines for the two militaries to share each other’s assets and facilities for repair, maintenance, supplies and training on an equal-value exchange basis.

The US has already submitted its list of logistics points of contacts and is waiting for India to reciprocate. Defence ministry sources said India had prepared a list and would share it with the US soon to operationalise the pact signed last year.

Indian news outlets must rank high on the most sensationalist journalist houses in the world. "China" gets JITTERS from an annual exercise which the whole military world knew would take place? Why?

And who exactly are they referring to when they say "China"? The Chinese government? The Chinese Military? The Chinese Navy in particular? The Chinese populace(if even 5% of them know what Malabar is)? And why exactly would any of them be concerned by an exercise in the Bay of Bengal - even with Japan taking part?

You guys pat yourselves on the back for even the most insignificant things...

You need to ask the cpc leadership and media about their rants against India.

If there are no jitters why rant for every thing as if some one has hit them hard.

Have you even bothered to read those silly official Chinese tabloids called 'The Global Times', 'China Daily' etc? Even if someone farts in the South China Sea or Indian Ocean or Arunachal Pradesh the CPC starts getting pissed off! You stupid Chinese have nothing else to do but get all riled up at everything. Shows Chinese lack of confidence in themselves.

Like the smaller the dog, the more it barks - because of its insecurity. You Chinese need to grow up - mentally and physically and open your little eyes wider to see the reality.

Unfortunately that honour goes to Chinese state media.

Chinese government has reportedly expressed reservation about Malabar exercise . Why would they do so care to elaborate ????

1. The Global Times is a TABLOID, not a party mouthpiece.

2. Whether you like that Global times article or not, economic development DOES go hand in hand with naval military biuld-ups. That's just a fact.

3. None of what any1 here has posted here disproves that this "article" is nothing but empty hyperbole. Malabar is an annual exercise. There's nothing alarming about it,

Indian media should keep its mouth shut. Instead of blowing India's trumpet, we should focus on these exercises and many other nation building activities.
India does NOT have any historical, long standing, rivalry with China. Once we become comparable economy with China, it is highly doubtful that Chinese will remain as provocative as they are right now.
Till then, yes we are absolutely under threat with China. So we should remain cautious and active.

We have a long way to go. We do not have enough resources to waste on unnecessary wars. We need a decade of peace to allow us to grow into a 8 trillion USD economy.

1. India now has a higher growth rate than China. In the future due to rising chinese wages and GST this gap will widen and most manufacturing will be shared between protectionist OEMs and India.

2. India has over 50 years of experience in carrier operations. Next year a partially operational carrier INS Vikrant will be inducted in addition to INS Vikramaditya. A 65000+ ton US style nuclear carrier is likely to be sanctioned soon by GoI.

3. China has a policy of 'What's mine is mine , what's yours is negotiable.' and bullies smaller nations in SCS. This makes unlikely partnerships like US - Vietnam and India - US get together. These exercises are used to define strategic partnerships.

4. The current GoI unlike the previous one is hardline nationalist and is massively bolstering defence expenditure and procurement. Might is right is what China believes and we shall respond in kind.

China is on shaky debt ground. It's very existence relies on growth. People in State Capitalist economy have had a taste for the good life and if China cannot deliver then people will strike out for more internal democracy.

Wait till 2025 and if Modi doesn't get assassinated or an idiot like Kejriwal or Rahul Gandhi doesn't become PM then good chance of this coming true.

Trump is attacking China on all fronts:
Sending an aircraft carrier against Chinese ally North Korea
Attacking China economically by adopting a protectionist policy in USA buy/hire American
Strengthening and formalizing alliance with Asian allies
Weening Russia away from China

All the cannons are aimed at China

Inshallah!
Niti ayog itself says that by 2030 Indian Economy will grow three folds to 7.5 trillion USD.
Right now Chinese economy is 11.8 trillion USD. And they are still growing strong at 6.7% (2016). It is not like that they have stop growing in their size. OBOR is one of the ways to ensure get lucrative returns to sustain this growth plan. However yes, still many people in China live below 20 USD . But CCP is quite effective in managing them. And people by themselves remember the 100 years of humiliation during colonization.
PRC mostly speaks the same language and is dominated by single ethnic group.

As far as US is concern , China has invested a lot in US and European Economy.
Let us see if ,now by 2025, we can suddenly put rockets up our asses and launch ourselves to different planets altogether. I would gladly be the happiest FOOL ever.

Calm down. You still haven't proven in any way that what this article asserts is true.

Who exactly do they say is getting "the jitters"? What are they basing that statement on exactly? Global times articles, as some have said? And how is the Global Times representative of the PRC? Its a TABLOID!

This article is just as sensationalist as the Global Times, and non-nonsensical as well.

All your points, from (1) to (4) do nothing to validate what this article is asserting as none of them have anything to do with the Malabar exercise, which is apparently giving China "the jitters".

Oh, and no. 1 is factually incorrect. Check some verifiable sources before posting falsehoods mate.
