Election or no election, the bottom line is that we have ASAT capabilities now. Nothing to do with politics. We just added muscle to our armed forces.

With the successful test launch of the Agni V missile on Thursday, India has demonstrated that it now has the capability and technology to launch anti-satellite weapons but the government has not yet given a go-ahead to develop such systems, DRDO chief V K Saraswat has said.

The scientist, however, made it clear that the government has not sanctioned the development of an anti-satellite system.

I don't remember the dates, but US demonstrated this with SM3 launched from a ship and with ASM135 from a F15...

Russia had one of the earliest anti sat tech. They planned something called co-orbit interceptor. The interceptor would be launched into orbit of the targeted sat. Over next few weeks the interceptor will catch upto the target and explode near it. Reportedly it had a penetration potential of 100mm of armour. A large overkill for a comm sat. Interestingly they use the same tech to make there new hush hush spy sats. They too creep on the target sats broadcast beam and snoop data.

China and India followed the cheapest way there was. Incremental build. All the subsystems where tested seperately and then clubbed together for the final weapon.

I think Porkis was trying to do the same, they replaced BMD with HQ-16 and Sat in LEO with JF-17 in atmosphere.

In all seriousness timing of this test is interesting
