GEO Sat take down cannot be done from ground as the physics don't work out. Requires kinetic attack payload to be put into matching orbit and be precisely maneuvered to collide with target. Its James Bond movie stuff. As for demonstrations, it is one of the world's most closely guarded strategic secrets so nobody has publicized any tests officially. USSR conducted way back for theoretical confirmation...US did same but both countries backed off on such systems as part of the START treaty and pledged to "de-militarize" space. Though in modern day China has been speculated to have carried out such tests. Usual cabal of 3...US, Russia & China would have such capability but it is highly classified and not openly acknowledged

Pretty much everything to work perfectly fine.

Remember the analogy they gave while we placed MoM on Mars orbiter? Hitting a golf ball across the ocean and into the hole....! This is bigger than that.

LEO takes a huge amount of fuel to be burnt at a very predictable rate, producing very accurate rate of acceleration. This is extremely important as the LEO birds are whizzing past overhead at nearly 8 Km/s. (Try doing that in your car...!). A slight over or under burn of the propellants and the bird is few dozen KM away.

The same is the case with the control systems. Those fins on the bottom of the projectile has to respond to a command in a fixed amount of time, say 0.01 milliseconds... A discrepancy of 0.001sec will put the entire rocket at a distance disadvantage. Same is the story for guidance.

But this is for LEO. GEO is just a matter of time. The orbits here starts from 38,000Km... LEO's max altitude is 2000Km. All that worked for LEO also has to work for GEO... But now we have a massive weight disadvantage. The weight of the fuel. That's it. Solve this problem and you have got your GEO A-Sat weapon or Anti Alien weapon....
