It is unlikely that Modi will throttle back at this juncture. I guess this block is what India has obviously expected and prepared for the next move. There have been rumours of actions which was let slip by RM, that were not owned by India as of now. However, given how the opposition have been harping the same tune of Pakistan regarding no strike having occured, Modi most likely would let the forces make a widely visible strike that would eliminate a legitimate target. Doing nothing from our side does not mean Pakis are not going to do anything.

While Congress messed up but our current govt could have pushed the deal and expedited matters.

All the opposition about Rafael started in 2018...in 2015 and 2016 there was no such effective opposition. The babus went at their own speed. Just imagine had delivery started from Jan 2018, we would have got at least 15 jets by now.

First i am guessing you were never part of any multi-crore sales deals in india, even between private companies it usually takes two to three years.
Second there are no middlemen in this deal, they are the people who bribe to move things faster. bribes are given to govt people to look the other way in certain terms and conditions. like in agusta westland.
Third there was a change in govt in france, 2-4 months would have been wasted in transition. because it was govt-govt deal.
Fourth Americans and maybe israelis are the only ones who have the capability to do fast deals, every one else like british russians french drag the negotiations.

Do guys realise, the noise over UNCLOS, encroachment of sea/ land in South China Sea has totally died down. Phillipines, virtually accepted the defeat and Vietnam also got silenced.
