Who said anything about DEESCALATION

Antonio Guterres hasn't spoken to India, Pakistan PMs, but other leaders
"The Secretary-General has had no calls with those two heads of government as far as I am aware, but he has had contacts with both sides to express his concern and the need to do as much as anyone can to de-escalate the tensions"

United Nations: While Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has not spoken to Prime Ministers Narendra Modi of India and Imran Khan of Pakistan, he has been in touch with other leaders on both sides to express his concern over the tension between the two nations, according to his Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric.

"We are fully aware of the situation," he told reporters on Tuesday. "The Secretary-General has had no calls with those two heads of government as far as I am aware, but he has had contacts with both sides to express his concern and the need to do as much as anyone can to de-escalate the tensions".

He declined to elaborate, saying, "I have shared what is shareable."

While the Aim-120-C5 has good Home on Jam capabilities, with chaff, high speed dash maneuvering, terrain masking it is possible to evade them and the fact that over 4-5 missiles were evaded shows that IAF piloting skills are World Class. The Pukis have shown piss poor or naïve combat skill actually. Heck even I with thousands of hours of DCS and other simulators know that BVR is really only effective at best in the 20-30 km ranges that too when the missile is fired at over mach speeds and high altitude. When fired out of the NEZ, Aim or most other missiles can be defeated effectively, specially when the target is a highly maneuverable and agile fighter. The LOC also some serious terrain advantage for those playing cat and mouse games. However, at lower altitude Manpads and ground fire is a bigger threat, those IR missile especially in salvo mode can be deadly.

Hopefully Meteor should increase the odds of success with a bigger NEZ envelope. Also BVR is not always possible since ROEs can hinder long range engagements.

Kudos to IAF, however, I don't think IAF should reveal much about how the engagement actually occurred, some things are very key trade secrets and its better they keep tight wraps on tactics used.

80% bombs hit target: IAF gives satellite images to govt as proof of successful Balakot airstrike

The Indian Air Force is learnt to have provided the government with proof that it hit targets in Pakistan's Balakot during the February 26 airstrike. The IAF has told the government that 80 per cent of the bombs deployed during the daring raid hit their intended targets, top sources within the service told India Today TV.

The Indian Air Force has prepared a dossier to refute the theory that the bombs missed their target. Pakistan has claimed that the bombs led to no significant damage except to trees and forest land.

International media too has cast doubt on whether the Balakot airstrike caused any damage. However, international media has not been able to access the Jaish-e-Mohammad terror camp that was targetted in the Balakot airstrike.

Now, India Today TV has learnt that the Indian Air Force has submitted a dossier containing 12 pages of high-resolution satellite images and synthetic aperture radar imagery collected from an intelligence aircraft platform flying in Indian airspace. These images have been submitted to the Narendra Modi government as proof of that the Balakot airstrike was successful, top IAF sources told India Today TV.

The sources also said that Indian Air Force Mirage 2000 fighter jets, which carried out the Balakot airstrike, dropped Israeli Spice 2000 precision bombs with "penetration warheads" during the raid. These bombs "pierced roofs" of the buildings targetted and exploded inside. So the damage was "internal", sources said.

The sources said that the Indian Air Force has submitted proof of 80 per cent of the bombs used in the airstrike hitting their intended target. The other 20 per cent would likely have been deployed to give the strikes a margin of probability.

The Indian Air Force carried out the airstrike during the pre-dawn hours of February 26. The airstrike targetted Jaish-e-Mohammad's largest terrorist training camp, located in Balakot in Pakistan's Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.

The strike was seen as a response to the February 14 Pulwama terror attack in which 40 Central Reserve Police Force jawans were martyred after a suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden SUV into a CRPF convoy.

The airstrike significantly heightened tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad. A day later, on February 27, tensions further increased after Indian and Pakistani jet got into a dogfight over Jammu and Kashmir.

A Pakistani F-16 and an Indian MiG-21 were shot down during the dogfight. The MiG's pilot, Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, was captured by the Pakistan Army.

Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman was released by Pakistan two days later, a development that was seen to have pulled India and Pakistan back from the brink of

Former Air Force chief: Satellite of Resolution of 30 cm or less required to spot the hole through which Spice 2000 penetrates.

People need to understand how this bomb works. It’s not like you throw and it explodes. That is your Aam bomb. This penetrates the roof or wall of 3 metres in and then warhead explodes.

We have companies like Bharat Forge which are among the top in the world in mettalurgy. Baba Kalyan even bought an entire manufacturing line for artillery from Austria at a cost of $100 million without a single government order, at his own risk. We now have the Atags which are among the best guns in the world and two companies that can produce 300 guns a year between them (BF and TAS) . Yet in 5 years, we have had nothing in any substantial quantities. Almost all the Indian companies that have invested in defence are very bitter in private about both the lack of orders as well as lack of clear intent on the part of the government. Wonder when anything will change.
Kalyani Group is a pioneer and I recall an interview where Baba Kalyani said that they had supplied hundreds of artillery munitions, during the Kargil war, without any payments up front...

Indian defense contractors will need lot of support and hand holding from the government. No private enterprise will take the risk of investing in R&D and set up production lines, unless the government, its only customer, guarantees assured orders...
