That's why I told you, you would need 200+ years to learn how weapons are procured, with MoU and ToT and other xyz ways which Indians needs to learn from US, Russia and China.

S-400 is a real Phuck you to the Pukis, buying it is imperative till our own XR-SAM comes up in 7 years. Intial need was for 12 but cut down to 5 highly mobile S-400 full scale regiments (each with 2-4 battalions), the remaining 7 will be filled up XR-SAM

US Senate Warns Russia of Sanctions if S-400 Sold to Any Foreign NationsSunday, March 18, 2018

A group of US lawmakers led by Senator Bob Menendez told the State Department in a letter that any sale of Russian S-400 air defense system should lead to new punitive measures as stipulated in the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA).

“We are writing today to specifically inquire about reported negotiations between Russia and certain countries over sales of the Russian government’s S-400 air defense system and whether these reported deals could trigger mandatory CAATSA sanctions,” the letter said on Friday. “Under any circumstance, a S-400 sale would be considered a ‘significant transaction’ and we expect that any sale would result in designations.”

The lawmakers also requested that the State Department provide detailed analysis on the current status of Russian S-400 talks with China, Turkey, India, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and any other country.

The senators based their letter on a report produced by the Congressional Research Service, which showed that Russia has been working on potential defense deals with different countries. Menendez and co-signers demanded information on how the State Department is trying to prevent the sales of S-400 being finalized and reiterated Washington’s accusations of Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and meddling in democratic process in foreign states.

The request comes just a day after the Treasury Department used the CAATSA legislation, along with an Executive Order that was amended by CAATSA, to impose sanctions on five entities and 19 individuals.

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB), Main Intelligence Directorate and six Russian individuals were sanctioned under the CAATSA legislation.

The US Congress passed CAATSA last summer in response to allegations that Russia sought to influence the 2016 US presidential election. Trump signed it into law on August 2.

India, Russia close to deal for S-400 air defence system

NEW DELHI: India and Russia are in the final stages of negotiations to purchase S-400 air defence systems two years after their initial deal on the matter. A commercial contract is expected to be signed soon and could happen on Nirmala Sitharaman’s maiden trip to Moscow as defence minister in the first week of April, according to persons with knowledge of the matter.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) recently told the parliamentary panel on defence that the procurement of the S-400 air defence systems developed by Russia is imperative to tackle possible threats from China and Pakistan. The parliamentary panel, on its part, has recommended that funds for this be made available during the year as per the IAF demand.

India and Russia have been working on the final commercial contract sinceOctober 2016, when the two sides concluded an intergovernmental agreement for the procurement of five S-400 systems, 200 Kamov helicopters, some of which will be bought and the rest made in India, and four stealth frigates. During Arun Jaitley’s visit to Moscow last year as defence minister the two sides expedited the process of concluding contracts for these. Work on the stealth frigates have started.

The S-400 systems are capable of intercepting and destroying airborne threats at a distance of up to 250 miles and can simultaneously engage up to six targets. Each S-400 comprises tracking and search radar systems, eight launchers, 112 guided missiles, and command and support vehicles.

China was the first global customer ofthe S-400, said to be the world’s most potent air defence system. It was delivered to China last year. Russia is also expected tobegin implementing the contract on delivery of S-400 systems toTurkey in early 2020.

Meanwhile, apart from the attempt to conclude the impending S-400 air defence system deal, Sitharaman is also expecting to move forward discussions on proposed bilateral collaboration on the development of a fifth generation fighter aircraft (FGFA). There will also be talks on spare parts, maintenance, upgradation and ammunition for Russian made defence systems. She will also participate in the Moscow international security conference.

Is there any evidence that 40N6 missile is even in production? The last time I checked it had not been seen with any S-400 battery in operation.
40N6 is S-400's default weapon, how can't it be in serial production? :)
You seem to be adequate some times, but the other times say some stupid menace :)

How about the thought that Chinese S-400 technicians can reveal the weaknesses of the radar system of S-400 to the Pakis?
S-400 has wide set of radars and passive sensors as well on different comnand tiers.
Chinese don't have them all.

And yes, those systems have no weaknesses, preliminary that much that anyone can exploit.

40N6 is the 400km missile the size of a double decker bus, hardly standard.

What about those theater anti ballistic missiles? Because these missiles don't offer much over the Ashwin missiles. Something engage targets in the exo atmosphere are needed more so than these. Something about the S-400 deal is fishy. Whats the advantage?

No.
2-decker bus size are 70N6 and 76N6 ICBM killers for S-500 suit.
40N6 have standard sized containers.

40N6 have 45km maximum altitude.
70N6 and 76N6 will come to stage with S-500 for this.

Btw, yesterdsy was a news that NizhTechMash plant has started S-500 LRIP-1 last week.

India is buying a souped up version of S-400 or you can call S-450 with some missiles and system coming from S-500. Hence are more costly.

We have also skipped smaller range missiles from S-400 which will be taken care of by Barak 1, Barak 8, Spyder system, Akash missiles. We are going for longer Range missiles from S-400 & few missiles with longer ranges fro S-500 and more advanced Radars from S-500s..........

Later on these can be upgraded to S-500 fully. This is also the reason why India delayed the deal as S-500s were not mature till then but now S-500 is mature and serial production has started.

Some cumbersome thoughts you have :)

In serious: the 1-st serial produced S-500 regiment for Russian VKS is planned to reach IOC in the middle of 2020.
