How many (if any) Maldivians are given Indian citizenship each year? Only Muslims can be citizens of Maldives so I hope we return the favor.

Modi's visit to Lakhsadweep is far more sinister that it actually looks. It is not even subtle. It is a direct hint that Maldives has overestimated it's importance in India's geopolitical calculations. India is going to cut Maldives to it's size.

I also wonder what warranted Modi's direct intervention. Was the real game much bigger than merely "installing an anti-India proxy"?

The "Indian military" in their country is a contingent of around 70-75 officers stationed there to operate the Dornier Do-228s and Dhruvs that we donated. This is not some NATO-like base that the average Gora must be thinking by looking at sensational statements.

Since the Maldives Defence Force does not have the means to spend so much on their own pilots' training, they ask Indian Coast Guard officers to fly and operate these assets for them. I say let's pull out from there and let the fuckers figure out what to do without Indian presence.

Leave them with a warning that any signs of Chinese military bases in their country and they will suffer heavy consequences.

There is not much land to make one but the PLA can always fund a dredging project to make artificial islands. Xi has gone overboard in spending money on power projection. The fake islands in the West Philippine Sea have started to sink thanks to their tofu dreg projects.

The point of building up Lakshadweep is to prevent forex from flowing into Maldives and rather use that to build up local territory. There is nothing that a visa to Maldives offers for foreign tourists. They can get everything that Maldives offers PLUS the rest of India for all its diverse terrains.

Developing Lakshadweep will only add more muscle to the Incredible India campaign and make our neighbours weaken and become irrelevant. It is high time we have a muscular policy towards others around us. Enough of being the big, generous brother. Time to extract our pound of flesh from their governments simultaneously.

Our approach in the Subcontinent has to harden from now on.
