Modi's visit to Lakhsadweep is far more sinister that it actually looks. It is not even subtle. It is a direct hint that Maldives has overestimated it's importance in India's geopolitical calculations. India is going to cut Maldives to it's size.

I also wonder what warranted Modi's direct intervention. Was the real game much bigger than merely "installing an anti-India proxy"?

He went there to inaugrate some infra projects, take photos with Govt scheme beneficiaries and lastly did the beach and snorkeling photoshoot with the mandatory Make Tour in India plug.
