The 5th plenary session of the 19th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party is scheduled to meet in Beijing sometime in October, I am not sure of the exact dates. Xi Jinping will want to have either reached an honorable settlement or completed a victory over India by the time the plenary session starts. It will be most embarrassing for him to have news reports of PLA/PLAAF reversals/defeats being circulated while this highest decision making body is in session. The danger of a conflict erupting IMO are highest in the weeks leading up to the Central Committee meeting. If the border situation stays frozen in the weeks leading up and during the Central Committee meeting then things should cool down and de-escalate after that. Right now, saving face is probably the most important factor determining whether there will be war or not for Xi.
