The more technically sound people pls explain why the twin tails along besides the tail rotor on either side.
That, I believe, is a horizontal stabilator on the tail rotor pylon: a monocoque construction on the tail rotor assembly to provide limited anti-torque ability during autorotation as a means of sustaining flight in the event of a tail rotor drive-system malfunction. It also serves as a vertical stabilizing foil to alleviate power requirement from the tail rotor during forward flight and as a simultaneous horizontal foil to allow the copter to land in a somewhat controlled manner in the event of an engine-failure, using autorotation.

Also the landing gear doesn't look retractable. I know you cannot retract at 15 mtrs flight but I think the design looks like you cannot retract the landing gear. if it is a non retractable system, then why so? Would it not hinder the aerodynamics and also it will be prone to damage in a battle field?
For the rest, refer to this post:

The landing gear is not meant to be retractable. Retractable landing gear will increase the weight on the rotorcraft, a big no-no for a helciopter desperately trying to shed weight to meet the Air Force's (considerably eased) requirements. The additional weight of associated motors and machinery marginally 'outweighs' (quite literally) the weight of fixed, tricycle-type landing gear. The slow speed of the helicopter, on the other hand, (relative to aircraft) [top speed, estimated at 25kmph above the top-speed of the Dhruv] precluded necessitating its inclusion. The helicopter was a good 300-350 kgs. overweight compared to the Force's original ASQ, and prior to TD-1, its previous testbed designate, was a good 150-175 kgs. over the Air Force's amended (370 vis-à-vis 225 k.g.) weight requirement. Weight issues were supposed to have been mitigated to a limited extent with TD-1, but I don't know how and by how much.

'Course, on the other hand, the existing non-retractable landing gear will increase drag and reduce performance, but I think the Air Force is willing to accept that in exchange for greater reliability and acclivity at the high altitudes of the Himalayas or the helicopter's combat ceiling of 6000 metres.

If by 'closed tail rotor', you mean a fantail assembly tail rotor, then that was not intended either. The LCH is a direct derivative won by a wrap of a slim, tandem-seat fuselage around the existing powerplant, transmission and rotor systems of the the ALH Dhruv, which itself bore a quadruple-blade bearingless crossbeam tail-rotor mounted overtly on the starboard side of the fin. As such, the tail rotor blades were supposed to feature composite, open, bearingless construction, with the main rotor blade tips featuring BERP-style sections for increased cruise speed.

Try shooting a teensy weensy target moving at 200kmph through bullet proof glass.

sheesh
the only real attack helicopter footage i have seen , all shows the same tactics.

Attack heli, come to the battle field and then park just on the edge of the horizon, And act as fire support for teams on the ground.

at best the average distance between the enemy and Helicopter is always going to 4 km.

I seriously doubt the pilots are in danger of being shot at through the cockpit.

They are either going to be to high or to far away.

And armour on the chopper will protect it against all small arms fire.

Any heavy calibre system will never survive long enough to make it close enough to the heli .

The only real defence a helicopter needs is very powerful Anti missiles systems . that can soft kill most enemy missiles.

Yeah I was thinking more on the lines of when the aircraft was hovering (I realize it won't be hovering close to enemy position) or maybe landing in a hostile area. Overall the LCH is well armored and I'm sure it will have a great missile defence suite so the pilot shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Nice pics!! In the age of Camera Phones, with so many spectators; not a single video? Unbelievable?
