It is not worth making 2 version of helicopters as that can be expensive. Moreover Afghanistan is not a good market to develop new version at high cost.

Moreover, it is not just about technology going to Pakistan but about secrets of Indian weapons going to Pakistan. Things like Indian defence network algorithm, special computer language etc must be kept very confidential

Afghanistan has too many Pakistani spies. If anything is given to Afghanistan, its entire details and data will be immediately handed over to Pakistan by one or the other spy. It is foolish to give any high technology or modern item to Afghanistan without Afghanistan getting stability

Again I am not speaking of getting ability to make helicopters but understanding the limits and algorithm of their working to develop countermeasures.

BTW, Copying of many things are easy and that is why there is IPR law.

Was waiting for this interview to be released!

Interesting points:
- The tails of both LCH & ALH have fins that can be activated (for safe landing) if the tail rotor goes kaput! This is very interesting! Because most RPG attacks that clip the tail rotor eventually makes the helo spin out of control. Would be interesting to know if the fin will get auto deployed if the tail rotor goes kaput!
- At one point he says "RWR, LWR, MAWS apparently WILL be under the belly" & then he says "all these are there". Not sure if it's already in place or on its way. Most likely they're not fitted yet. Because the space he showed for DIRCM doesn't have the DIRCM fitted as yet too.
- LCH flies on auto-pilot!
- Helina is still elusive!
- IMRH will take another 8 years!
- (weirdest thing) Weight reduction improvements are being made....after about a year they should be able to reduce the weight by 20kgs! Eh?????

I was more interested in the engine development part but He just scratched the surface as far as engine development is concerned. He could have asked about the present status of both the engines as well as the performance of the new core they've been testing on HTTF.

yeah, that 20kg weight reduction plan sounded absurd to me as well. I was also expecting to hear about some new R&D projects they are looking for but overall a good interview.

Probably the two pilots are on a weight loss program - in one year each will lose 10kgs

Why is the rocket pod having a unique shape instead of a round one? In fact, this reduces the no. of rockets that can be carried. If it is reduction of air drag, then still the frontal cross section is planar unlike certain other pods used in Mi-17 / Mi-35 which have a conical cross-section?

I think the pods and rockets are going to change in due course.

IMRH will have a Naval version (ship based).

like LCH, did not find anything Naval IMRH either.. from the video HAL said only ALH has been modified for CG and Navy and that LUH features foldable rotors which got incorporated in ALH.
Navy does not need LCH yet but once we have our proposed LPDs built, IN may decide to field some LCH for CAS in amphibious Ops.

HAHA. Don't forget that fire-and-don't-forget capability (LOAL) was added on AFTER the fire-and-forget (LOBL) capability was achieved!!

They could. But bottom line is, HELINA's range is 8 km in LOBL mode.

Not sure if the new seeker helps in that regard, but with earlier seeker (low resolution) it wasn't LOBL at 8kms - and hence the data-link & LOAL.

Point to note is that on the first day of the recent Helina trials, they said it was tested to 'full range' even though it was only tested for 5kms! Apparently they were talking about the seeker range. The 8kms range test was probably done few days after.

As I had deduced earlier: only LOBL on Helina missile have been successful (upto 7 kms range). LOAL - which actually gives it the full 8 kms range has still not been successfully tested!
