DRDO new Tech to make HAL LCH stealthy

Due to their low-attitude and relatively low-speed fight profiles, helicopters are subjected to serious threats from radio, infrared (IR), visual, and aural detection and tracking. Among these threats, infrared detection and tracking are regarded as more crucial for the survivability of helicopters. In order to meet the requirements of infrared stealth, several different types of infrared suppressor (IRS) for helicopters have been developed.

LCH infrared signature will get reduced now ....

btw ... Apache already have these devices

Good watch and great to see an Indian journo getting excited for an Indian product not orgasming over foreign imports!

Like I’ve said above and (once again) confirmed- HAL has commenced production of LCH even without firm orders from MOD so they will be able to deliver airframes almost immediately once IA/IAF get off their lazy backsides.

Really isn’t acceptable anymore that this nonsense is still going on. Remember when the services used to blame HAL for everything? HAL has clearly woken up to this and is doing everything they can to avoid such criticism. As I long suspected the services were the problem all along. This product is ready to go but they are busy arguing over the Apache which costs 4-5x more PER AIRCRAFT.

I’m sure they’ll come up with some excuse like “no ATGM” when they’ve hadn’t years to pick a foreign one whilst DRDO (nothing to do with HAL) develops HELINA/SANT and have been utterly inept at even doing that. As HAL says they can integrate any weapon the services seek but if the services can’t even pick how is this HAL’s fault?

Besides, neither the IA nor IAF had a problem inducting the Rudra without an operational ATGM- both have dozens of these beasts in service as we speak.

I’m now waiting for the excuse thar they won’t order LCH until the HAL-DRDO MMW radar is ready for it.

India will never create a globally competitive military industrial complex with traitors and buffoons like these in the armed forces. No county with a robust MIC doesn’t have a supportive local military as their primary customer that drafts requirements, tests and supports and orders in large quantities.

Left to the armed forces India will be importing even shoelaces in 2050.

Bdw rudra is in supporting role where as hal lch will be in front line role
And iaf and ia both are struggling with rudra
The mistral atoa missile cost rises
The Belgium rocket cost rises
And without any atgm

Bdw a helicopter is basically for ground attack role
So an atoa missile is less important than an atgm
Again forget not rudra can carry 6 paasenpas s too

May be iaf and ia learned from their last mistakes...so waiting for helina

After that they may order hal lch

Again now Thales rocket pods with rocket s are ordered by hal to equip rudra and 15 lch lsps ,may be ia and iaf waiting for this......

An attack helicopter without atgm is toothless....

Hope ia and iaf will order 100s of lch

And I believe helina which is in user trial will be cleared soon

A mega-deal for the purchase of Akash surface to air missiles and 83 light combat aircraft has been cleared by the Union Cabinet.

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet has cleared a mega Rs 5500 crore deal for Akash Surface to Air Missile and 83 light combat aircraft. According to sources, contract for 15 light combat helicopters is also likely to be signed this year. Moreover, in what is likely to simplify the procurement of weapons, the Centre is expected to roll out a new defence procurement policy by March 2020.

Is the total figure of Rs.5500crores correct?. 83 LCA alone will cost tens of thousands of crores. At 450 crores per Mk1A as quoted by HAL the total comes to
83 * 450 =Rs. 37,350crores.

Probably one zero is missing in the figure quoted in the article.

Title is misleading, 83 LCA Mk-1A will be signed by year end. This 5500 crore figure is for Akash SAM. Which version of Akash this order aims to acquire also hasn't been mentioned.

I would like to ask aerospace experts one question

Can a helicopter like the LCH fire an Laser Guided Bomb.
In a situation of total air superiority where enemy Sam's and aircraft do not pose threat can helicopters be used to bomb targets. Like in Kargil war where Pakistani intruders occupied heights. The only danger to helicopters would be shoulder fired anti aircraft missiles and portable anti aircraft guns. Can a helicopter stay out of range of the man portable anti aircraft missiles like the Stinger and use LGB's like fixed wing aircraft to bomb the hell out of the Paki pigs.

Is it technically feasible?.
The cost of operating helis should be lesser than that of aircraft like Mirages and Mig29, right?.

Continuing from my previous post focusing on air power options in mountainous areas with special reference to the Kargil War.

Another alternative to the use of fixed wing aircraft to bomb enemy positions on mountain heights is using drones. Indigenous drones like the Rustom can be customised to fly at very high altitudes. They will have endurance of 24 hours(possible) and be equipped with LGB's and laser target designator like the Israeli Litening Pod. They will be flying at heights well above the range of manpads like the Stinger and portable anti aircraft guns which may be deployed at targets. Targets can be identified, highlighted and then bombed.

The advantages of using drones are
1.Pilots life will not be risked.
2.Human fatigue problems associated with high altitude flying can be avoided.
3.Even in worst case scenario if the drone is brought down point 1 is ensured.

Of course necessary preconditions are
Total air superiority and no hostile aircraft in the operating area.
SAM threat nil and if present to be neutralised.

In the Kargil War our fighters namely the Mirage 2000 and Mig29's with their BVRAAM missiles ensured that Pakistani fighters stayed well behind the border.

Many a times the targets could be just 2 or 3 man team manning gun positions in the mountains. We will be seeing max platoon strength at gun positions in mountainous terrain. Risking expensive aircraft like Mirages and Migs to take out these small targets is ill advised and uneconomical.

This is a possible plan that can be followed in case a Second Kargil like war happens......

What do you think?

20km ranged #aircraft fired #missile that can penetrate >700mm RHa . This if adapted to the #LCH will turn it into a real world class #Tank Hunter . #India
I don't getvit how is this supposed to materialise.
Has VEM already made the prototype of these missile?
OR do they have the capability to make this missile?
Or do they have the capability to make this missile using DRDO help?

Since no private company has ventured into making missiles and stuff so can't say what is the process.
Does the Gov assign certain Budget to make the prototype.
Or do they straight up give orders on missiles that has prototype made out of Comapnies own pocket.

VEM technologies net worth is some $120 million.
The entire NAG projects costs some $40 million
Assuming if this ULKA projects costs some $10 million, it would still be a large amount of money for R&D.

Generally pvt companies buy tech & production from EU countries....... i dont see any R&D here.........

They are already partnering with DRDO on projects. Sensors, guidance systems and the like.
I suspect tech obtained via foul play of some kind.
Doesn't bother me.
