The whole of Lahore was well within the reach of the Indian Army though. It still doesn't take anything away from the fact that Pak had hoped to capture all of J&K and dreamed of taking Delhi away too when they started the war, only for them to get completely on the backfoot as their logistics couldn't keep up and their supplies were running critically low. They were saved because both the US and the USSR worked to put an end to the conflict by putting a lot of pressure on India to cease further advancement or risk getting sanctioned (mind you, this was at a time when the Green Revolution hadn't been a thing yet so we were very much a food insecure country).
