This might be derailing the thread but we are inefficient with our spending and not just that, the exams like JEE which are supposed to equal and without any interference have their own cracks, people are able to bribe their way in top unis. Linked a reddit post with data for around 60 students who have take CS or related branch and had magical transformation in one attempt, anyone who is prepping or has prepped for the JEE would know thats next to impossible. And this data is for NSUT alone which has around 400-450 seats for CS related branch. The one who dint cheat and did the hard-work suffered here. Inshort the System is fked left right centre.

Instead of building more quality colleges they’re busy stuffing kids in the existing ones, I mean in a population of 1.4 bn around 1 million give the exam and anything less than 20-30k rank is worthless if you want to go to a decent college. Below that you get good branches in some below average colleges. And college infra in sarkari colleges isn’t that great either compared to private unis who have better faculty and infra but have atleast twice the fees of a govt college and almost none of them have placement cells of their own.

I went to IIT a decade back. You could easily say there were many people who cheated their way into IIT given their mathematical and physics knowledge/capabilities. And in almost all cases these people were from Bihar, not shitting on Bihar but exams are a joke there. LOL, there were guys who barely had 60% in 10th and 12th boards getting into IIT. And the result? Flunking courses after courses.

College teaches you little, the lecturers vomit out stuff that can be read in the text book with no explanation of concepts. When students get no guidance and are unable to understand the subject, they are forced to memorize . From memorizing the derivation of equation to memorizing computer programs and so many more absurdities. The best part ? Many technologies taught are obsolete and when the course content is updated , they simply shuffle subjects between semesters.
When you do badly in exams the profs tell the students , diD yOu noT rEaD pRevioUs YeAr quEsTion PaPeR.
Anyone who goes to an engineering college "for knowledge" is a fool. However it is a path to a good job and a path to prosperity.
There are smart students who see through the bullshit early and learn from the internet , but then what was the point of going to college. TO get that piece of paper that allows you to sit for interviews ofcourse.
Never blame the student or their attitude towards learning. They simply adapt to the environment that they are in.
