Ok... I am getting a bit confused with all this gear...

I will try to summaries it as to what F-INSAS might look like IMHO...

Will add a few suggestions from my end as well... Please don't curse me if some of them are a bit too far fetched...

WEAPONS (Infantry):

Beretta ARX160 with GLX160
+

ACOG/Reflex red dot
+

Sun Shade
+

Thermal Sight
+

Camera (Outside Line of Sight Target Aquisition)

WHAT TO WEAR (Head):

Enhanced Combat Helmet
(The ECH's profile is very similar to the US Advanced Combat Helmet but is thicker. The helmet's shell is made of an ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene material. It can protect 35% better against small-arms fire and fragmentation than the current Advanced Combat Helmet. The helmet is required to protect against certain rifle projectiles. The helmet is of the "tactical cut" type and thus offers less coverage but does enable better mobility. The helmet will be compatible with camouflage fabric helmet covers. The replacement of the Advanced Combat Helmet with the Enhanced Combat Helmet has been likened to the transition from the Humvee to the MRAP.)
+

Helmet Mounted Camera
(for Video Mission Logs & Data Link to command)
+

Helmet Mounted Flashlight
+

Helmet Mounted Night Vision

WHAT TO WEAR (Body):

Digital Camouflage as per theater of operations
+

Armor
(Dragon Skin is yet to be certified due to politics an excuses like "test report not being in proper format" etc. but the makers have sued the gov for delay. Users swear by it.)
Dragon Skin internal view

Full 5.56 mag emptied from a M16 from 10ft with 0 penetration

It can even take the full blast of a pineapple granade without penetration.
+

Modular Tactical Vest

WHAT TO WEAR (Feet):

Army Modular Boot
(Fit for dessert summers to sub zero winters)
The main reason for the Army Modular Boot program is cost. A single footwear system could replace separate boots for every environment from desert to arctic and enhance readiness as each Soldier would not have to be issued specialty footwear prior to deployment. The prototype consists of a fire-resistant, desert-style hot-weather boot, plus inserts and an over-boot soldiers can use in cold temperatures.

GADGETS:

HOWEVER, i think we can do much better. The wrist device screen size would be too small for any practical purposes. It would be impossible to see under sunlight & the backlight would make the soldier easier to spot at night. The core processor need not be anything more than a latest iPhone like device without the battery or touchscreen or camera... result a computer+GPS the size of a stack of visiting cards.

My suggestion:
Processor: a belt mounted Smartphone like device with extended GPS+WiMAX+UHF+VHF. Device can have a built in secondary display for use when not under fire.

+
Output:

A prism based fold-away monocular display unit. So close to the eye, it looks like a 17" monitor. I have tried something similar to this! Includes earphone & microphone for instant 2-way communication. To be used as a primary visual unit. Also can be used with gun camera for Target Acquisition Outside Line of Sight.
+
Input:

Wrist mounted input device. Very tugged, waterproof, very hard to break
+
Power supply unit:

A belt mounted rechargeable battery pack

OPTIONAL GADGETS:
HULC Exoskeleton

D.R.D.O's HULC is an un-tethered, battery powered, hydraulic-actuated anthropomorphic exoskeleton that provides users the ability to carry loads up to 90 kilos for up to 20 kilometers on a single battery charge over all terrains. HULC's design allows for deep squats, crawls and upper-body lifting with minimal human exertion. An advanced onboard micro-computer ensures the exoskeleton moves in concert with the operator. HULC is an innovative solution that improves endurance and reduces the risk of injury to the soldier.

SPARCS

40MM UBGL launched Soldier Parachute Aerial Recon Camera System. A much cheaper solution to a man portable UAV. Also, so small that it's very difficult to shoot down. For day time use only.

M992

The M992 is fired from regular 40mm grenade launchers. Unlike other 40mm parachute flare rounds, which illuminate the battlefield for both its users and opposing force, the M992 produces very little visible-light. Instead, it lights up the battlefield with IR-spectrum light, benefiting only those equipped with night vision equipment.

Will come up with Specialist Infantry Units gear later (Fire support group, Sniper team, CQB etc.)...

Not political excuse, It field in trails, Shrapnel and bullets were stopped only from front but easily penetrated from sides..

The camo there is not digital..

Yeah, not digital prints... gave those pictures as an example of the different color combinations, not for the patterns

Dragon Skin... read it from a few sites... sure there are conflicting versions! :tsk:

Maybe the best would be to get samples officially and let IA test them?

I think this is a topic that ought to be talked about much more. I haven't seen much about this in most forums and I thought we must break the ice about all this.

According to the information I have, the soldiers will be equipped with a new generation INSAS rifle capable of grenade launching and other assorted tactical capabilities.

Also in the deal will be Thermal imaging and Nightvision equipment (which I think is long overdue).

And, of course, let's not forget the bullet proof jackets (Type 3A, I think) which are to be made inhouse.

And, it seems that Tata and L&T seem to be the frontrunners in this deal.

Have added my know-how of the F-INSAS system below

The F-INSAS is the Indian militaries multibillion dollar program to turn India's infantrymen into fully networked, digitised, self-contained 21st-century warriors. The overarching goals of the F-INSAS programme, which took shape in 2007 after several years of planning, combine a host of soldier-mounted technologies with the aim of creating a new generation of Indian infantry with better communications, lethality, survivability and situational awareness.

The US has a similar program called Land Warriors that was cancelled in 2008 but restarted in 2009 (Land Warrior - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). There is very little known off the F-INSAS program found the following links that talk about this program

Land Warrior morphed to Nett Warrior... but that was cancelled in 2011. It was too heavy and ate through batteries too fast. They gave up on it and are just issuing smart phones.
