It sounds like Mig-29K is out of the picture. The competition is between Naval Rafale and F-18. F-18 being cheaper probably will be the winner.

Nothing is going to be cheap.
A batch of 36 of any aircraft will cost more than $6B.
As such, i don't see any new aircraft inducted into IN aviation corp till atleast 2030.
Since, there is a lot more to be paid for, like extra P8I, rotary wing, submarines, destroyer, frigate etc. All for a budget of $3.5B per year.
At the very earliest, an aircraft will be chosen by 2023, signed by 2025, and inducted no earlier than 2030.

SH18 is heavier but with the lower load and range.
Dassault has already a factory in India.
French is more keen on make in india than US.
There are benefits to have the same plane in air force and in maritime one (logistic, training, simulators...)

Integrating one dosen't necessarily mean the other is useless. If the F35B's operator is European, what's the harm in integrating a European product too. Integration of Indian missiles on Rafales won't mean the imported ones are bad.Strange idea....

Yet they are still lining up to buy. But I'll tell you what, put the French stealth fighter up to compete with the f-35 and let the superior French jet win. Or offer the Rafale, the problem is you have a delta wing canard fighter with some decent electronics and you think it's the second coming of christ. France is doing what everyone else is doing, updating what they have while working on a stealth fighter, otherwise they would say that the Rafale is enough into the 8th generation.
