Greek def exp was always within 2-3% of gdp. I dont see how you find it mismanaged? India spend 2.3% and pakistan 4% this year.
When you are under debt you should reduce that to minimum 1% or so and first clear the debt faster then you can normalise defense expenditure again. Otherwise you are caught in interest cycle.

Pakistan 4% GDP on defense is ludicrous. But it's good for India that they are that stupid .

USAF issues RFI for F-35A SiAW missile

The US Air Force (USAF) has issued a request for information (RFI) to develop the Stand In Attack Weapon (SiAW) to equip the Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter (JSF).

The sources sought solicitation issued on 8 January calls for potential vendors ahead of the engineering and manufacturing development (EMD) phase of the SiAW that is geared at affording the USAF's F-35As with an internally-carried anti-access/area denial (A2/AD) capability.

To Americans Erdogan is already 90% lost. Lockheed Martin already assembled 100% the indudtrial contribution of Turkey.

And st#pid Turkish are still dreaming of getting F-35s... Their next best option is Rafale for Americans will not sell them anything cutting edge. Or if Erdogan goes full crazy he can opt for Su-35 (Turkish AF does not like Su-57).
They will opt for russian planes.
Su57, as all the modern plane, will need a long maturating phase. Sukhoi has all the knowledge to built another nice and potent plane. Just see F35 exemple : the maturation phase is not at the end 14 years after first flight of pre serial bird. Give time to Su57.

Greece has always paid high attention to its armed forces.
For a country of only 10 million, they have
250+ fighter aircraft (160 F16, 50 M2k, 40F4),
2000 tanks,
11 subs, 11 frigates!!
A few F35 won't break the bank.
Maybe one origin of the near bankrupt !

more 1400 tanks than 2000 ! including 500 to 600 old M48.....
and for me more 8 subs than 11.

I don't think they will take F35. or another brand new plane. second hand F16....

1) https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/30100/no-passive-radar-isnt-stealth-ending-magic-people

2) Reporting an article both sides have not confirmed and written as a what if, as stated in the article.

3) Using an article that states part of the problem is the French blackmailing Germany due to collaboration with the new fighter program.

LOL

Just an important thought about passive stealth, Lockheed Martin has been producing and selling passive stealth radar known as Silent Sentry since the 1990s. The US military and US Border Security uses it. So whatever the capabilities of passive radar has been taken into consideration in the development of LM's F-22 and F-35.

Couple of questions for experts:

a. Will F-35s be ever sold to India? Or, is this thread just a teaser?

b. Is US going to impose sanctions on India? If so, who will step in to supply engines for LCA and its successor projects like ORCA?

I'm not an expert but here's my 5 cents on it:

1. The US is really interested on selling as many F-35s as they can around the World as it is part of their security and diplomatic umbrella. But US will only sell with guarantees that the buyer is (a) a close US ally, (b) can afford it, (c) will not leak its tech. I don't know if India is ready for all 3. That's probably the reason why the US is starting with F-21 to gauge the relationship;

2. US is very unlikely to impose sanctions on India due to its geostrategic importance. The US will consider waivers.

-> 1. I will stop dreaming about F-35s. I think I can live without F-35s
-> 2. I am glad there will be no sanction on India. I truly am relieved

BTW, what is the price of a squadron of F-35s?

Note: India has never violated confidentiality agreement with any of its military partners including US. So I think concern in 1.C is not valid.

The flyaway unit cost of preproduction Lot 14 F-35 is $77.9M.
http://www.defensenews.com/air/2019/10/29/in-newly-inked-deal-f-35-prices-fall-to-78-million-a-copy/

So 12 F-35As at Lot 14 price is $934.8M. But you still have to add on training, simulators, housing/basing facilities, weapons, etc. (like all other planes).
