Poor F-35 couldn't keep up. If only they had the mach 3 capable rafale...oh wait.
Tu-160 max cruise speed is Mach 1.1. It requires full afterburner to make an escape and can only maintain that for a short amount of time before it reaches Bingo fuel. Rafale can supercruise at Mach 1.4 and sustain that past the point the Tu-160 would be forced to shut off afterburners to avoid running out of fuel. The F-35 can't maintain the same cruise speed as the Tu-160 so it can't keep up with it much less overtake it.Poor F-35 couldn't keep up. If only they had the mach 3 capable rafale...oh wait.
All this will happen only when they are within 10km of each other.
Firstly, Tu-160 T/W is only 0.37, there is no chance in hell it can out accelerate either Rafale or F-35 or literally any fighter. If they wanted to shot it down or overtake it, they could easily. However, Tu-160 has higher top speed than both, so given time, it will eventually fly faster.Tu-160 max cruise speed is Mach 1.1. 2000km? They have to fly 4000km just to reach their launch point in the North Sea. Their base is on the Kola Peninsula and must fly around the airspace of all Scandinavian countries and into the bottom of the North Sea to reach launch point. They aren't using afterburner unless they have to. The hope isn't to run the Tu-160 out of fuel, it is to make it burn past Bingo fuel and have it crash into the sea. All of the airspace they are flying through is hostile with no ability to bring a tanker to save them. Rafale will have a buddy tanker meet it far out on the return trip after having shot it down.Firstly, Tu-160 T/W is only 0.37, there is no chance in hell it can out accelerate either Rafale or F-35 or literally any fighter. If the goal is to shot it down then even a Mig-21 can do that at that distance, if the goal is to make it burn past bingo fuel then no, there is literally zero chance a Rafale or any fighter can do that. Even the F-22 only included around 100 nm dash in its mission profile, Rafale won't be any better whereas Tu-160 can fly at Mach 1.5 for 4000 km, this is not even a contest.2000km? It is nothing more than seasonal headline and that it.Not to mention that even with full afterburner no Tu-160 can out-accelerate AMRAAM class A2A missiles. That's why this issue about Tu-160 "disappearing" from 2 Japanese AF F-35s is simply so ridiculous!
We don't attack Tu-160s unless they take aggressive posture, we escort them out of range of their launch point. In order to escort them you must have eyes on their launch bays to make sure they are closed otherwise they get shot down. Tu-160 pilots are not suicidal, they won't open their launch bays unless they are out of sight. Their mission is to get out of visual range of NATO escorts so their attack posture is not known. It doesn't matter if it is an F-22, Rafale or an F-35, the mission is to keep eyes on target until the Black Jack reaches Bingo fuel and forced to turn around. The Black Jack mission is to keep NATO eyes off of their launch bays while reaching launch point. You have to know the rules of the game before you make an analysis. If the goal is to shot it down then even a Mig-21 can do that at that distance, if the goal is to make it burn past bingo fuel then no, there is literally zero chance a Rafale or any fighter can do that. Besides, if they don't even attack the Tu-160 when they are less than a hundred meters from it, you really think they will attack the tanker? Nope, never gonna happen. And if they actually wanted to use Tu-160 in an attack, they would have it stay from 3000-4000 km away to launch KH-101. Fighter simply doesn't even have the endurance and engagement range to shot down bomber before they can launch their attack.
F35 isn't made for gunning.... But has a gun.All this will happen only when they are within 10km of each other.
F35 isn't made for gunning, it'll avoid this fight and is well equipped to do that with its stealth, LPI radar, EOTS( that'll visually locate EF2k at longer distance than itself being detected by EF2k radar)
In BVR, Luftwaffe be like 'Verdammt, we couldn't even see where they were'.
Just because armies have a gun, do they let go of bayonets?F35 isn't made for gunning.... But has a gun.
F35 is made for BVR, but has AIM9X.
Strange isn't it?
Well no, Tu-160 purposefully fly near the border is basically a peace time tease/ provoke action, it is not supposed to be any strategic or tactical maneuver. It is the equivalent of bring a sniper rifle and walk near your neighbor's yard. If Tu-160 actually wanted to attack they will never have to get that close. They literally wanted to be seen by NATO escort, heck the same task is also done by Tu-95 which is a propeller aircraft. No one gonna make any attack whatsoever, once Tu-160 get that close, any attack it makes is practically suicidal even when it is out of visual range. We don't attack Tu-160s unless they take aggressive posture, we escort them out of range of their launch point. F-22 is obviously the best for this mission but Rafale is second best. F-35 isn't even in the running.
It only becomes that after they have been busted. They are attempting to see if they can reach launch point before they are detected. They aren't taking off in a nuclear bomber for a joy ride.Well no, Tu-160 purposefully fly near the border is basically a peace time tease/ provoke action, it is not supposed to be any strategic or tactical maneuver. And yet the USAF has a dedicated aircraft for this mission called the F-22 stationed in Alaska. Clearly the F-35 is not capable as demonstrated by Japan.Any aircraft can do this escort mission, even F-4 or F-111. No missiles will ever be launched and to hope that any fighter can out endure a strategic bomber is just laughable
Indeed. And yet the USAF has a dedicated aircraft for this mission called the F-22 stationed in Alaska. Clearly the F-35 is not capable as demonstrated by Japan.
F-22 is not dedicated to stop Russian bombers from entering NATO and allies' airspace in peacetime. F-22 is primarily designed to achieve air dominance by going after and decimating enemy frontline fighters. Bombers fool enough to go into an anemy's airspace like in WW2 will be mercilessly cut down by SAMs or fighters (5th gen, 4th gen, or even 3rd gen) armed with modern long range A2A missile. And yet the USAF has a dedicated aircraft for this mission called the F-22 stationed in Alaska. The F-35 can't even keep more than a third of its aircraft available... that is called a maintenance turd just like its maintenance software. Most of its fusion sensors don't even work, that is why it is called IOC.The F-35 is primarily a multirole fighter. But due to its unmatched situational awarenes, sensors integration and stealth it can perform air fominance missions as easily as ground attack missions. A formation of F-35s is the most rabid pack of modern military wolves there is. And paired with F-22, then the wolves are paired with a pack of lions.
you write about it as if it is an AWACS. It is not and will never be.The F-35 is primarily a multirole fighter. But due to its unmatched situational awarenes
