We can look at the most widely Chinese turbofan, the WS-10, for more detail.
WS-10 is a heavy engine that has variants powering hundreds of J-10s, J-11s, J-16 and J-20s. There are WS-10s in prototypes of new J-15 variants.
It has improved year after year and put in many more types planes of plane!

The WS-15 will replace it as the heavy engine in the J-20.
There are turbofan projects for medium engine -- WS-13 and WS-19 -- as well as light engine for trainers. We have high bypass engines for transports and civil airliners.
So many kinds of turbofans! Just a dozen years ago, China had only one turbofan for its frontline military aircraft -- WS-9 for the JH-7. Now there are 8 major ones -- WS-11, WS-17, WS-18, WS-20, WS-10, WS-15, WS-13 and WS-19.
Definitely improvement at lightning speed. Well, for Chinese anyways. Maybe Indians are faster. How many engine projects India has?
