The whole point of DRDO is to make the procurement % more Indian. With procurement mounting to 80% being imports, it is failing miserably. With the $100 billion to be spent in the next five years, it is only going to get worse.

Yes, DRDO failed with domestic Trishul. That is all that was said. We can go on all month about DRDO failures... what are the successes? Akash is half success since they needed Polish radar, but that is fine.
No, It didn't failed in Trishul. For radars - Check DRDO radars. we didn't bought. We were successful.

Yes, it failed in many segment/category which i agree. I can also list many names. They were also successful in many projects with delay or no.

Successful in Prahar, Prithivi, Agni-1,2,3,4, Shourya, K-15, Akash, Working on NAG, Agni-V, Astra, ABM.....

Tejas & Arjun are not failure but very delay which one can say failure. Even i said Tejas is failure.

Armand is right. Trishul failed and hence the Navy opted for Barak.

Akash is something else meant for some other purpose. It is a MR SAM.

The Indo French JV Maitri is in the limbo because while DRDO wanted the French to use Trishul's propulsion system, the French insist on using their own.

Are you crazy or something? Seriously?

Do they manufacture the Rajendra Radar in Poland?

Akash is a complete success by any standard and so is the indian radar for it, it had been inducted and Army has ordered more. What are you on about?

There is no Polish component in the Akash system. It's just a rumour. Only early models of the radar system had Polish inputs and were long replaced by a fully Indian radar years before induction.

How long does something have to be "delayed" until it is considered a failure? At least Russia has the guts to cancel projects. DRDO, No.
Are you saying that DRDO is a failed organisation?

If so, I don't agree with you. Others have posted reasons why.

The real litmus test for DRDO success/failure is% on imports to domestic production. Falling from 70%-80% imports over the last 5 years = FAIL.

So what can be done to improve the situation? Those who criticize should also give remedies.

The following are failures by any standards.

1) Kaveri= Failure

2)LCA= Partial Failure(no advancement in avionics like radar or engine and many other stuff we know about)

3)Arjun

4)Trishul

5)UAVs we still buy from the outside

6)Guns we still buy from the outside

7)???

Anyone want to add?

You call that a successful organization?
How much or what is the DRDO involvment in LCA.. ?

I would not add BMD.
I believe its good but no one acknowledges the Israeli input.
I think in missile technology DRDO has got its place.no doubt in that..perhaps what it should do stream line resources and man power. It has got the talent but no man management..."chaltha hai " kind of attitude. This must change.Otherwise it is just waste of money. Its always been our experience that no govt organization is efficient...

There is no point defending the Thrishual is a fail but the Barak is only an intermediary for an local missile to take its place.. Other missiles like the Akash and Shurya will take its place. The problem is the Ships where fitted with silos made for Barak.
To put Akash in ships we need a displacement of 10k tons. We dont have any replacements projects going on for Baraks. Navy hasnt got any plan to put akash in ships and it never will.
