License production with CKD & SKD kits initially now progressed to MII for practically the entire bird. You can't compare MKIs with BRAHMOS.
One is license production, other is JV.

So u mean to say that army will put forward new requirements with more quantity of vehicles to address all the sectors and then mammoth procurement procedure may beginNo.
Army has already inducted them on their offshore missions long back. In 2019 they have put forward a requirement of 200 odd WhAP for Western sector alone. But after that Galwan happened. So now along with Western, requirement would be revised for Northern and Eastern sector. What about that?
I've just given the example of Mahindra. What about Kalyani and L&T?
You think IA could just go on and place an order of 200 WhAPs to TATA just like that?
Yes, they might. So u mean to say that army will put forward new requirements with more quantity of vehicles to address all the sectors and then mammoth procurement procedure may begin
Are there mandated commonalities between the versions from different vendors?Yes, they might.
But in all, they are not going to give a massive order to single vendor just like that.
Both are based on same design. So mandated or not, commonalities are bound to be there. Are there mandated commonalities between the versions from different vendors?
My question is if the same base repair depot can seamlessly maintain both and if there is parts commonality. Both are based on same design. So mandated or not, commonalities are bound to be there.
Both are sharing commonalities. Kestrel was an APC. But Mahindra was more specialized. My question is if the same base repair depot can seamlessly maintain both and if there is parts commonality.
Cause we don't want a zoo in APCs as well.
I think the brahmos is too expensive because of inefficiency of scale. When they are ordered in peacemeals. As you pointed out there are too many brahmos fanboys against whom i, myself being an ardent nationalist cringe at. The brahmos weapon is a brute force anti-ship weapon based on soviet doctrine of overwhelming western navies through sheer numbers. They are to be cheap and mass produced due to less parts and the cheap part applies only when they are produced in scale which the soviets were master at due to big roosia having vast natural resources. The tomahawks cost less due to the same economies of scale like F-35. Russians didn't master good enough turbofan or sensors like LRASM in essence they actually don't need them. See, China also has same strategy where they gonna spam df-21. They don't need another LRASM type missile otherwise they would have copied them already. You can't beat western navies at Sensors,Electronic Warfare or Propulsion so the only thing you can do is spamming. Brahmos is good if each ship is armed with atleast 32 to overwhelm the enemy through hull kill, not enough in a sense we can do better with systems kill. Finally, I would never underestimate the enemy by dismissing their SAM systems even if brahmos can do pugachev cobra.A subsonic missile is better than a supersonic missile in sea-skimming ability because unlike supersonic Ashm, a subsonic Ashm won't create the sonic wave that will interfere with the water surface. Even the old Exocet can do sea skimming just 1 meter above the sea surface.

India has Nirbhay, which is the Indian analogue to the American Tomahawk, Russian Kalibr, it is a subsonic missile. Brahmos is supersonic and can travel in excess of mach 3 speeds, though Brahmos can travel very fast which in theory can give it's target less time to take counter measures, an incoming brahmos will be very easy to detect because it would be easy for a radar to distinguish it from the background sea clutter.

Low level missile were very deadly in an era where radars had difficulty targetting against ground / sea clutter .. This is hardly the case nowA subsonic missile is better than a supersonic missile in sea-skimming ability because unlike supersonic Ashm, a subsonic Ashm won't create the sonic wave that will interfere with the water surface. Even the old Exocet can do sea skimming just 1 meter above the sea surface.

Yet we've indigenized the fuel which we were importing for 25 yrs since the start of the JV. Interesting , no ?Yes.
That's the entire point. In license production, you can build the whole platform indigenously with indigenous component. But same is not true for JV.
sauce. since google reverse image doest return any info
Only Ukraine has the reality bending ability to intercept more than launched .
One question is that does this dRdO recruitment typically start like UPSC selection where they write an exam or such and get selected not so through actual knowledge like in competitive countries. dont they have any lateral hiring like they go the best guy in market to do the job? or do they dabble among themselves or so.It is pity to know that project after project; year after year the DRDO fails to deliver on time or has less than what is needed. It took 10 years longer to build the first operational LCA and many more projects. Now we hear that for 15 years the DRDO had toyed with the idea of UAV and UCAV development but failed miserably build TAPAS project.
Anywhere else, that DRDO group will be dumped; asked to leave or fired out of service. But not in DRDO. Now they are pretending to use technologies built over 15 years elsewhere or read in between the lines trying to continue in service under one pretext or other.
There are many other projects like that which are midway with DRDO which are neither here and there.
Hence, for a personality like Modi, it should be urgent and immediate to dump or privatize DRDO. A re-organization planned by the Defence Ministry with same service rules will not help. It needs money for right delivery concept as practiced elsewhere including the West. No budgets, no promotion nothing of the sort. A project is sponsored with a group of scientists and engineers. If they succeed then they get a new project or if they fail then goodbye. Discipline, accountability, responsibility has to be forced upon them or they are looking other line of business.

You may have to honey trap someone.Where are all the 480p boomers in DRDO when I need to see some pictures of the Zorawar![]()
