One question though: Its about quad packing of missiles. US quad packs ESSM in Mk 41 VLS, is it because the VLS allows hot launch and hence ESSM does not need a booster? Or is is the booster of ESSM small (~0.2m)?
If its true that hot-launch makes booster redundant, then will we also be able to quad pack Barak-8 if we develop such a VLS with hot-launch capability?

Edit: Now that I think about it, cold launch is made possible by gas generator in the launch canister itself, and the hot launch simply means that the missile engines ignite in the VLS itself pushing the missile out. So does that mean a booster is required for the missile in either case?

Edit 2: My main question is this: Can we somehow reduce diameter of booster of Barak-8 (even if it is at cost of the length of booster) to allow it be quad packed in a VLS of 0.7m diameter?

It depends upon the configuration of the missile in deciding whether it needs a booster or not. Look at the Mk41 VLS canister here.

You could see that it supports both systems, with and without booster. Hot launch although brings down the overall weight of the system, but it also does increase risk for the adjoining missile in case of a launch failure.

Coming to Barak-8, its better to have a booster in them. But yeah, the current length of booster could be brought down with change of fuel.

Prahar 8x8 is guess work.

AD means most probably AAD.

The Universal Launcher probably is for PAD (left) and AAD (right). So 6 AAD or 2 PAD can fit in one TEL? If its PDV in the first launcher and not PAD, I will be disappointed. I thought PDV would have foldable fins. Also, @NeXoft007 mentioned that the dia of PDV is 0.5m, which is almost same as AAD, so I don't think that is PDV.

Barak 8 is hot launched from Indian ships VLS, BrahMos is cold launched .

I also want what you want, but have no conclusive evidence to confirm that, quiet possible, but can't be confirmed. Till then I would consider AD as AAD.

Both Brahmos and Barak 8 are hot launched, the ignition happens inside silos itself.

Check the videos, the missile ignites once it is thrown out of the VLS.
