Is it a conspiracy to deprive India of indigenous weapons? Sometimes I feel, concerned generals are waiting for Modi to lose 2019 & Congress come back to power with alliance partners & the same generals can then discard all indigenous systems for foreign naval & their commissions restored. Until then drag Indian weapons into testing.

Final trials of ‘Dhanush’ underway

TNN | Updated: Jun 6, 2018, 00:43 IST

Testing of indigenous weapons/artillery is in continuous progression at Pokhran field firing range in Jaisalmer. And this time, first indigenous, long-range artillery gun ‘Dhanush’ (Deshi Bofors) is being tested finally after two years.

Developed by Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) and manufactured by Jabalpur-based Gun Carriage Factory (GCF), the trails of Dhanush have been going on for five years. Earlier, it had faced some major hiccups regarding ammunition used in it. The existing Dhanush can hit target at 38km and the improved version, which has the capacity to hit target at 42 km, is undergoing final trials in Pokhran. After that it will be handed over to the Army.tnn

Army to get six more Dhanush guns soon

India’s first indigenous, long-range artillery gun “Dhanush” which cleared its final round of trials earlier this year is all set to pave way for official induction into Indian Army as Gun Carriage Factory, Jabalpur (GCF) is currently preparing to handover Six indigenously-developed 155 mm ‘Dhanush’ artillery guns to Indian Army.

GCF till now has developed 12 Pre-production Dhanush 155-millimeter/45-caliber towed howitzer which was extensively used by Indian Army for series of user Trials over the years. Six guns to be handed over are from the initial order for 114 guns.

Indian Army is planning to link a fresh deal with Gun Carriage Factory (GCF) for 414 Dhanush guns in coming months with that production will begin at full scale at the production line.

Each Dhanush costs Rs 14.50 crore and is based on 155mm x 39mm calibre howitzer supplied by Swedish Bofors company in 80’s but now comes with upgunned 45mm calibre which has a strike range of 38 kilometres and 81% of its components are indigenously sourced, GCF plans to achieve 90% indigenisation by 2019 .

The entire order of 114 guns is to be delivered within four years.
Isn't this too much time to deliver 114 guns :eek1:. Is this again result of not big enough upfront orders after years of testing?

But Dhanush was always supposed to be a stop-gap arrangement till ATAGS or another 52 caliber gun became available! The IA artillery field rationalization plan has no provision for 45 caliber.
