I asked the Ashok layland representatives that ' Is that truck can carry or pull tanks carriers ? ' He was unable to answer that..
TATRA served Indian Army for long and these are good vehicles what is bad is the BEML the distributor..

if we have our indian made tata,ashok laylands trucks then why to have tatra which is foreign made at big cost?what is so special in it?

Night Vision for BMP and Missile Launcher Sight..

These are rather crude, something like the ones on the FAGOT launchers earlier.
IMO the MILAN thermal sights were far superior in finish, quality and performance 15 yrs ago.

The TATRA truck was mainly used for tank transporters and arty guns. They were powerful enough and had independent suspension for rough cross country travel. The TATRA/ URAL engines were as powerful as those of tanks.

While TATA and Ashok Leyland could not compete or supply the same...these companies could not even supply bus chassis for the civilian market. Bus bodies were made on truck chassis. It is only now that JV with Mercedes and Volvo have improved bus travel of the common man.

BTW, most people may not be aware that the Scania trucks that tow the Bofors guns were also imported. Even now we import the tyres for these trucks...coz the local manufacturers will not make them.
