dear, these posts( from #1305) were moved from Indian MBRLS Pinaka Thread somehow.
-------------
the Guided Pinaka is claimed with 60-80m Accuracy/Consistency...it's a typical so called Guided rocket
and the Smerch in IA could achieve the consistency of aroud 0.21% (1/320, an elliptical CEP 100*220 @70km) with ingenuity and practical design.

Guided rocket could be considered as Simplified missile... normally more accuracy means higher price. the balance of these two factors could be determinded by the both supply and demand sides.

The 39th Type 056 corvette Pennant number 540 Wuhai/乌海 has been inducted into the Chinese Navy. That's 21 of the general purpose variant and 18 ASW variants.

Henri K' very helpful break down in the article below demonstrates how the Navy has been favoring the ASW variant the 056A over the general purpose variant since 2015, with 3 commissioned in 2015, 4 in 2016 and 8 in 2017. All 2017 commissioning's in 2017 where of the ASW varient.

Soon 40 Corvettes Type 056 in the Chinese Navy
HENRI KENHMANN

JANUARY 16, 2018

Since the commissioning of the first class building in March 2013, it is soon approaching the 5th year when the Type 056 corvettes have begun to integrate into the naval forces of the Chinese army.

If we believe in the figure that a "sixty" number of copies was ordered by the Chinese Navy, mentioned by an "insider" source, this program of light combat class 1 000 tons, designed among others for the protection of China's maritime interests in its exclusive economic zones located 200 nautical miles from the coasts and low-intensity conflicts, has already traveled ⅔ of its way, at least until yesterday.

Indeed, an article published on the website of the Chinese army 81.cn this Monday, January 15 tells us that the new corvette 540 Wuhai joined the 19th flotilla of frigates, a unit of the Northern Fleet based on the island of Haiyang, located off Dalian City in northern China. It is in this same city that the 2nd aircraft carrier is being arranged.

It is therefore the 39th Corvette Type 056 commissioned in the Chinese Navy, which is also the Type 056A variant , the 18th series, specializing in the fight against submarines.

The 88.9-meter-long, 11.14-meter-long bau-building was launched at Liaonan Shipyard on September 12, 2016. Like its sisterships, 540 Wuhai moves 1,340 tonnes full load and its system The CODAD propulsion system allows the ship to sail beyond 25 knots, with an economic autonomy of 2,000 nautical miles.

On the combat systems side, the ship is equipped with an ASW combat and communication suite, ASROC missiles, anti-submarine grenades, light torpedoes and a towed sonar, as well as a main gun. 76mm H / PJ-26 , two CIWS to 30mm H / PJ-17 guns and one CIWS to eight-tube HQ-10 missiles .

The 95 crew members are now headed by Commander ZHAO Jiang Long (赵江龙), who is entrusted with the ship at a price of 710 million yuan (about 90 million € at the current exchange rate) for the cons -Admiral YAO Li Qiang (姚立强), deputy commander of Liaoning Naval Base, in an official ceremony that took place yesterday at 10:00 am local time.

The civilian representatives of Wuhai, a mining town of 550,000 located west of China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, were also present. Ship 540 Wuhai is the first class named after a city in this Chinese province.

Note that this is the second new combatant admitted to active service this year by the Chinese Navy, the first being the 598 Rizhao Class 054A frigate , also commissioned in northern China on January 12 .

Since 2013, between 5 and 10 new Type 056 and Type 056A have been introduced every year into the Chinese naval forces, and we should be in the low range this year, with at most five ships delivered including 540 Wuhai . The figure should start rising again in 2019.

We can also see that the ASW version successively takes the place of the standard version in construction, so in the delivery too, and since 2014.

NB: This list includes only Chinese Navy hulls and does not feature the two export versions sold to the Bangladeshi Navy.

Correction to the above. Henri K seems to have made an error. Wuhai is the 38th Type 056 inducted to Chinese Navy service.

The 36th and 37th Type 056 corvettes or light frigates in Chinese Navy terminology were commissioned last year 2 weeks apart.

https://www.navyrecognition.com/ind...ass-commissioned-in-plan-south-sea-fleet.html

China's 36th & 37th Type 056 Corvettes (Jiangdao class) Commissioned in PLAN South Sea Fleet
POSTED ON TUESDAY, 28 NOVEMBER 2017
Ezhou(hull number 513) in January, Luipanshui(hull number 514)in March, Yiwu (hull number 518) in April, Hanzhong(hull number 520)in July and Yichung (hull number 556) in October. Guangyuan (hull number 552) was built by Huangpu Shipyard of the Chinese naval group CSSC located near the city of Guangzhou in southern China.

According to our colleagues from Eastpendulum, a local media article revealed several interesting elements about this class of corvette, such as the fact that it is built for combat missions located within 200 nautical miles from the coast, with an endurance of 15 days and a range of more than 2,000 nautical miles.

This suggests that the Type 056 corvettes and their ASW variants (Type 056A) are designed primarily for patrol, escort and protection of maritime interests in the exclusive economic zones of China. It also frees the 4,000-ton frigates and 6,000-ton destroyers for blue sea or higher-intensity missions.

Type 056A Corvette Suining during the commissioning ceremony

Note that all Type 056 corvettes commissioned so far this year (7 in total) are Type 056A ASW variants. Out of the 37 corvettes of the Type 056 class commissioned in the PLAN since 2013, 21 are of the baseline variant and 16 are Type 056A ASW variant.

According to Eastpendulum's estimate, the Chinese Navy could still commission four more Type 056A vessels before the end of the year. These are 535 Xuancheng, 540 Zhangye, 557 Liaocheng and 554 Deyang.

According to a Chinese MOD statement, Type 056 Corvettes are new-generation light guided missile frigates independently developed by China. It has a length of 89 meters, a beam of 11 meters and a full-load displacement of 1,500 tons.

The warship, independently developed, designed and constructed by China, is equipped with a variety of weapons and equipment, and is featured by good stealth performance, strong compatibility, and a wide range of applications of advanced technologies.

After commissioned to the PLAN, the warship will perform such missions as patrolling, alert, fishery protection, escort, antisubmarine operation and anti-surface operation

The Type 056 is the Chines Navy's answer to the challenge of enforcing control over its littorals. At a price of 700 million Yuan or $108 million per unit, it is a low cost solution for both general purpose OPV/patrol duties and Anti-Submarine Warfare. ..

1 370 tons, with a maximum speed of 27kns and a compliment of 67 sailors and officers, this class replaces the small Type 037 sub-chaser and the Type 053 frigate in coastal and offshore defense roles.

With its ZKJ-5 Combat Management System (CMS) and HN-906 datalink, the class serves as a node in a surveillance, patrol and strike network with other surface, sub-surface and airborne assets of the Chinese Navy to monitor and prosecute targets in the Chinese littoral/EEZ. This class frees the Navy's larger surface assets such as the Type 054A frigate and the Type 052 destroyer classes to other operations further from the coast line.

Of the 38 hulls commissioned, 16 are attached to the South Sea Fleet, 14 to the East Sea Fleet and 8 to the North Sea Fleet. 10+ more hulls are currently fitting out or being assembled in the 5 shipyards building the class.

From the article above:

On the combat systems side, the ship is equipped with an ASW combat and communication suite, ASROC missiles, anti-submarine grenades, light torpedoes and a towed sonar, as well as a main gun. 76mm H / PJ-26 , two CIWS to 30mm H / PJ-17 guns and one CIWS to eight-tube HQ-10 missiles.

4 ST-16M deck launchers for YJ83 ASM's

The 8 cell HQ-10 launcher for intercepting incoming ASM's or aircraft:

The remote controlled/manned 30mm H/PJ-26

The 18(and counting) ASW variants, the Type 056A's have large stern hatches for deploying variable depth sonar and acoustic decoys, the same apparatus featured on Flight II Type 054A frigates and all Type 052D destroyers:

Triple 324 mm torpedo launch tubes for Yu7C(?) torpedoes with a shrouded propulsor replacing the contra-rotating propellers on the Yu7. This torpedo was first pictured in a large scale SCS Navy exercise in 2015.

The "ASROC missile" Henri K is alluding to in his article is this air breathing, light-weight torpedo carrier missile, first seen in testing in November 2016.

It is launched from the same ST-16M deck-launcher system on Type 054A's and Type 056's that also launches the Yj83J ASM. Whether ASW Type 056A's carry 2 ASW missile/ 2 YJ83J ASM or an all ASW missile load-out in their 4 launchers is an unknown at the moment.

the Z-18/Z-8G in PLA army service

A Jane's article by Richard Fisher
CAIG Z-18 transport helicopter looks to have entered service with PLAGF
Richard D Fisher Jr - Jane's Defence Weekly
09 January 2018

Chinese state television showed on 2 January footage of the Z-18A transport helicopter being deployed during PLAGF exercises in Xinjiang. Source: CCTV
The Changhe Aircraft Industries Group (CAIG) Z-18A transport helicopter has entered service with the People’s Liberation Army Ground Force (PLAGF), a news report by the state-owned broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV) has suggested.

The network released video footage on 2 January showing the platform being operated by a PLA Army Aviation unit during military exercises in China’s western Xinjiang-Uighur Autonomous Region: a likely indication that it has entered service.

The Z-18A is based on the commercial three-engine Avicopter AC313 multirole medium-lift transport helicopter developed by the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC). First seen in December 2014 in Chinese state media, the platform is reported to have undergone high-altitude tests on the Tibetan Plateau in January 2015.

The army-specific Z-18A could replace the PLAGF’s ageing S-70C-2 and/or Z-8B platforms and provide the force with an enhanced high-altitude medium-lift capability.

Naval variants of the Z-18 include the Z-18J airborne early warning and the Z-18F anti-submarine warfare helicopters. The Z-18A differs from the naval versions in that it has an extended nose with a terrain-following radar and an electro-optical system.

However, it uses the same three WZ6C turboshaft engine configuration, lightweight hull design, and ‘glass’ cockpit as the naval versions. It has a maximum take-off weight of about 13 tons, can carry about 27 fully armed troops, has a range of up to 1,000 km, and features an aft-ramp for offloading small vehicles.

The latest development comes amid media reports that the PLAGF is setting up new air assault brigades to consolidate army aviation helicopter units with lightly armed but mechanised air assault infantry battalions.

China says carries out another anti-missile test

BEIJING (Reuters) – China has successfully carried out another test of an anti-missile intercept system, the Defence Ministry said on Tuesday, describing it as defensive and not aimed at any country.

China has been ramping up research into all sorts of missiles, from those which can destroy satellites in space to advanced nuclear-tipped ballistic missiles, as part of an ambitious modernization scheme overseen by President Xi Jinping.

The Defence Ministry said in a brief statement the “ground-based midcourse anti-missile intercept technology” had been tested on Monday within China’s borders.

We-Indians are struggling to retake our own Pork occupied Kashmir (PoK) but Chinis are building military installations to take-over entire SEA  (SCS) based on their 'Made in China' IMAGINARY MAPS!

China had in December defended its construction on disputed islands as 'normal' after a US think tank released new satellite images showing the deployment of radar and other equipment

Beijing claims nearly all of the waterway and has been turning reefs and islets into islands and installing military facilities such as runways and equipment on them, such as this radome on Panganiban Reef

China's continued reclamation in the South China Sea has eroded trust among rival claimants and could raise regional tensions, Southeast Asian foreign ministers said on Tuesday

The military build-up has emerged in pictures taken from 1,500m in the second half of 2017, according to a Filipino paper

Beijing's militarisation of the South China Sea has been revealed in new photos obtained by a newspaper in the Philippines

For what purpose? You do not have enough EEZ to need so many glorified Coast Guard Cutters. Not that we mind having orders for so many French engines.

China is good at building infrastructures.

China is not only the first one finishing such large man-made island in seas, but also will surely be the first one who built mand-made base on the moon and Mars.

How dare you!!!!!!!!????????????:rage:
Such a title is too puny for China. They want to be called "The most prolific land grabbed in the solar system."
Look:-

"We"? :pound:

Use your head mate. From the Bohai Gulf to the Gulf of Tonkin, China's coast line measures almost 15 000km. That's an enormous littoral space, not even including the SCS.

Considering the just as enormous US naval presence on Guam, in neighboring Japan and South Korea + China's industrial base and population centers being mostly coastal ... 40 Type 056's aren't nearly enough for the Chinese littoral.
