Henry Kissinger and the Emergence of China as a Challenge to the USA
Henry Kissinger, in collaboration with Richard Nixon, envisioned a multipolar world where the United States would maintain a central role, with Europe and other nations forming global alliances. Despite seeking to enhance China's influence, Kissinger couldn't have predicted the extent of China's ascent, which was facilitated by subsequent administrations under Reagan and Clinton.
President Clinton's efforts to counter the Soviet Union inadvertently fueled China's economic and military growth, supported by foreign direct investment, technology transfers, and advantageous currency exchange rates. Today, China's economic prowess rivals that of the US, accompanied by a formidable military and growing geopolitical influence that challenges American dominance in the Pacific and Indian Oceans.
The shortcomings of the Kissinger/Nixon multipolar theory partly stem from the unintended consequences of empowering China. Additionally, the diminishing power of the US can be attributed to incompetent administrations engaging in unnecessary conflicts and the rise of China, which was facilitated by US policies and investments.
As India emerges as another economic powerhouse, it is positioned to follow China's trajectory and assert itself globally. Hypothetically, if China and India were to form an alliance to challenge US influence in the Indo-Pacific region, it would significantly diminish American power.To prevent such a scenario, the US must strategically disengage from the Chinese supply chain, relocate manufacturing to friendly countries like India and and other newly industrialized countries.
However, the allure of profits from Chinese imports may impede such a shift, potentially leading to an ultimate shift in power towards China and India. Currently U.S. is keeping India aloof for reasons unknown. May be that it is Ukraine war or Indian oil purchases from Russia annoying US. That is a worthless annoyance, if you look into the future. It is now that U.S. has to act decisively and silence anti Indian sentiments to have workable long term relationship. It is for sure that power is shifting away from US and it will be helpful if this shift stays in friendly hands.

This is why China can build a dominant EV ecosystem, a complete semicon process/supply chain and a new airliners industry along with its upcoming aero-engine sector -- despite the so-called debt issue from a massive HSR buildout and a Realestate bubble burst. The Chinese economy produces far more surplus than could be meaningfully dented by a deflating RE balloon and HSR investment as massive as it is helps increase productivity in the economy.
So debt per person is very low in China despite expanding investment in every industry!
