No country with a declining population throughout the entirety of human history has grown.

China has a declining population as of 2020.

there are three ways to sustain population growth; have more babies, encourage immigration, increase life expectancy.

the first two methods encourage faster GDP growth. The last method creates more liabilities to the health care system and increases the average age of the population quickly and creates a burden on GDP. Without replacement level or growth; majority of GDP goes towards health care. uSGovernment has a $6T budget and 65% of that goes towards retirement savings and health care. That distribution looked different when the US was at the peak of its power in the 1950’s

as of 1970 USA was in the same boat as China is today. However they heavily relied on immigration to boost GDP growth. That works because people want to move to the US but no one will move to China.
