Disappointing😢.
“The new uniform will maintain the same colour percentage as in the present uniform, which is a mix of colours and shades, including olive and earthen.
As reported by ThePrint, unlike the current style, there will be no tucking in of shirts.
The trousers will have additional pockets for the ease of the soldier. The material chosen for the cloth is meant to be “lighter but sturdier” and suitable for both summer and winter.
It was not immediately clear whether the new combat uniform will have shoulder and collar tags like the present one, or blackened ones for better camouflage.
Also, the shoulder stripes — denoting rank — could be moved to the front buttons, a pattern followed by other major armies as well”.
@Gessler i think your fears on twitter are now confirmed.
Not completely disappointing. It is better than the current one, but nowhere near the latest-generation patterns available.

For example, PLA camouflage -

Much better silhouette-breaking and will work even in an urban environment.

Even CRPF MARPAT blends better in a jungle environment.

Modern pla camo is probably the best in the world, even better than the us army version of multicam

Ya'll Nibbiars The available colour schemes are not suitable and the Central European Pattern was found to be very effective in the Forested regions.
We have discussed this before and agree that one-size-fits-all does not work for camouflage.
Different terrains need different camo patterns. But IA is not going for that, unfortunately. So they could opt for something that would be at least satisfactory in desert, mountain and green terrains ie Multicam. Not ideal, but this is India we are talking about.:confused1:🙁

Alex is a trustable journo and he has written the article
Yes, he is, but then what would be the point of releasing a pattern before the much-vaunted inauguration on the Army day? Chances are that the army gave him one of the officially considered patterns as it is unlikely to make a leak to just Coupta like that.

The Army HQ would go crazy.

But knowing the incompetency of NIFT, I have my fears and reservations.
